message 1: by Erica (new)

Erica What is Matched doing on here?

message 2: by MaiaB113 (new)

MaiaB113 I'm noticing a trend of mostly YA "paranormal romance." Suggest anything?

message 3: by Anna (new)

Anna All of the Twilight nooks belong on here Bella is the flattest character i've ever read!

message 4: by Erica (new)

Erica Stephanie Meyer and her clones have spent too much energy making the vampires sparkly and werewolves buff to bother to make Bella a strong character.

message 5: by Clíodhna (new)

Clíodhna Okay right you guys have got a lot of wrong books here and to name a few, City of Bones? Clary can be annoying but in a way you're meant to see her as annoying until we see her from Jace's point of view and see how brave she is to help the people she loves. Hush, Hush? yeah Nora seems a little dull but then Patch comes along and she feels alive, she acts better because she starts to take her walls down. That's what books are about, Twilight deserves to be here because none of the characters develop (especially Bella) but in probably a lot of these books they do. Maybe not the way you want them to but did anyone want Sirius to die in Harry Potter? Or any other great examples? No, but the author decided that it happened, it's their world they can do whatever the hell they want and we can't do squat. So stop complaining and get on to reading books you do like instead of trashing ones you don't but others do.

message 6: by Marielle (last edited Feb 02, 2012 07:19PM) (new)

Marielle What is Last Sacrifice doing in here? Rose is awesome, badass, witty, funny, gorgeous, strong and well she is a bit bitchy and selfish and uncaring sometimes (**cough**ADRIAN***TRAGEDY**COUGH), but she doesn't deserve to be in this list.

OH , and Clary may be a bit too whiny but she's awesome but apparently nobody in the books notices that nor does the person who put city of bones in this list!

this is just my opinion!!

message 7: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 29, 2012 09:56PM) (new)

Oh, NO! not another hate Twilight list. Can't you people think of anything else besides your hate?

message 8: by La Mala ✌ (new)

La Mala ✌ Wait , What the hell are Lisbeth Salander ,Katsa and Rose Hathaway doing here??

message 9: by Jayden (new)

Jayden Katniss Everdeen ISN'T a little bitch like Bella -.-

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

City of Bones is listed twice.

message 11: by TheOneAndOnlySam (new)

TheOneAndOnlySam yes i agree with some of these heroines, espesh Bella Swan, but why is Clary, Rose, Katniss, Nora, Tris, Grace, Luce, Tally and Beth on this list??? All of these people either a) know how to kick butt or b) are tossed into a world they have no idea about and try to make the best of the situation, and do so exceedingly well!!! Why are they on this list??? Yes they need their "boyfriend's" help because they have no clue what they are doing at the start, but as the book continues, they actually get better and better and are actually very strong, realistic, occasionally annoying (but what character isn't?) and perfectly in sync with the book. Without those characters, there wouldn't be any book to read!!! Say what you want, but the books which have the characters that I have just listed are some of my favourite books ever, mainly because of those characters!!!

Clary, Nora, Luce, and Beth are annoying as shit.

i was thinking the exact same thing. Rose is a badass and should not be on this list and neither should Clary although she's whiny at times.Love Adrian!!!!

message 14: by Michael Cargill (new)

Michael Cargill Cargill I haven't ready any of these books, but I know that Hilary Clinton is a bit of an old witch, so I voted for her.

I suppose that I have, technically, read Romeo and Juliet, but it was in school, and under duress.

message 15: by LoveChica99 (last edited Aug 07, 2012 06:22PM) (new)

LoveChica99 Who made this frickin list? Okay 1 some of these books are actually really good. To whoever made this: Grow up, and keep your hate to yourselves. This isn't fair. I suggest you read all of these books again with a more matured outlook. Put yourself in the character's shoes and redo this list.

message 16: by Redd (new)

Redd those "worst females" are actually the ones making the books good...

message 17: by Hannah (new)

Hannah I can never understand why people these days like picking on successful writers, singers, actors. Although some of the listed books were not my favorite, I don't think it's very mature to make a list like this. It's bullying in my opinion.

message 18: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany For the record, just because I find the female lead annoying does not make it a bad book

message 19: by Nicole D. (new)

Nicole D. What's Mansfield Park doing on here and not Emma?I added Emma.I can't stand her.

message 20: by JG (new)

JG *GASP!!!!!!!!!!* HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!!!!!! WANDA (THE HOST) IS ON YOUR WORST FEMALE CHARACTER?!! WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE?! FREAKING BLIND!????? DONT BE SUCH A PREJU-FREAKING-DISTIC JERKS!!!!!!!!AHHHHHHH!!!!

message 21: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Watkins Looking for Alaska? Seriously.

The way Alaska is portrayed is intentional because it's how Miles sees her at first. It's about learning to see people how they are instead of idolizing them.

message 22: by LoveChica99 (new)

LoveChica99 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What!!! What is going on here????? Some of these are my favorite books of all time!!!!!!

message 23: by Summer Breeze (new)

Summer Breeze Just Listen. Seriously? That was a complete surprise for me. Well, the fact that Annabel did not go to the polcie or her parents or anyone did bug me but she had to go through a lot. I personally think that Ruby from Lock and Key was waay more sucky. Well atleast there is no Macy Queen here.

message 24: by Aj (new)

Aj I just think you're one of those people that can't appreciate a good character. I mean, pretty awesome role models are on here! So what the heck? I mean, seriously, Hunger Games? She sacrificed herself for her own sister! FIRST VOLUNTEER OF DISTRICT 12, EVER! Just . . . no. And what's with the hate on these girls? How about you just make a nice list of the characters you like, save us all a little happiness?

message 25: by LoveChica99 (new)

i know!!!!!!! she's like a freaking saint!!!!!

message 27: by JG (new)

JG WHAT IS BLOODLINE DOING HERE!!!! WHY IS SYDNEY IN THIS LIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????

message 28: by Kelley (last edited Jul 20, 2013 06:48AM) (new)

Kelley Ceccato What if the female character is supposed to be repulsive? What if the author intends for us to hate her? I believe that is the case with Steinbeck's East of Eden (98).

I'm a bit baffled by the hate for Hermione.

message 29: by Candice (new)

Candice Nora is by far the worst. She's so stupid that Hush, Hush should have been titled How to Get Yourself Raped and Murdered.

I read the books, and hated them from the start. And people can hate what they hate. Just because you like Twilight doesn't mean everyone does.

message 31: by Candice (new)

Candice Nic wrote: "Oh gosh I agree with you! Probably every hate list on this site has Twilight on. Sad thing, most of those who voted, either never read the books or they did love it once!"

I'm sort of part of that group. I absolutely loved the first half of the book. Then he was sparkling, the romance was suddenly sappy, the conflict completely disappeared, and I was bored to tears for the second half of the book. Completely turned my attitude about the book around. Does that invalidate my opinion because I liked the first half? Absolutely not.

Emma Deplores Goodreads Censorship Gotta love people who comment on "worst of" lists to complain about the existence of "worst of" lists. Go find other lists that suit you better if you don't like them.

And Hannah (#17), don't be ridiculous. Criticizing a book is not "bullying." Books are products that are put up for sale, and readers have every right to discuss them however we see fit. Frankly your use of the word demeans anyone who's ever actually been bullied.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

this list is actually ridiculous because there are many books listed here in which the female character is actually really strong

message 34: by Madisons1 (new)

Madisons1 Aj wrote: "I just think you're one of those people that can't appreciate a good character. I mean, pretty awesome role models are on here! So what the heck? I mean, seriously, Hunger Games? She sacrificed her..."

That was her shining moment, in my opinion. The rest of the book is unrealistic and Katniss is either completely dull and robot or thinking about Gale vs. Peeta. And I agree with whoever put Clary and Bella up here - they're just whiny and wait for their boyfriends to save them.

This list is not for people who like these books, stop getting all offended because somebody's opinion differs from the current bandwagon!

message 35: by christine (new)

christine I find it funny that about a third of these female leads are the strongest and most kickass female characters I know.

message 38: by Agustina (new)

Agustina Pretty much no one escaped this list huh?

message 39: by winifred (new)

winifred muncxa I don't get why Juliet is on here - she is a little bit of a wimp but definitely not a worst female character. Give her break, she's only thirteen.

message 40: by Cassie (new)

Cassie Mcadams What i want to know is if these books and heroins are so bad what do you people consider good?!?!

You can like a book and hate a character. They aren't mutually exclusive. Good books sometimes have awful characters, and female characters are so often cliches and stereotypes that a list like this might do more good than harm.

message 43: by Ninna (new)

Ninna Harry Potter? Really people? In this book there are tons of amazing female characters who are really worthy and you put them with Bella Swan? ( weakest female character for me but I really enjoy Twilight).Who ever created this list has to reread many of these books on this list and update it.

message 44: by Karen (new)

Karen I'll never understand the hate on Bella. She's down to earth, she's independent, yes she spent her college fund on a bike, but it was her money, she never asks money from her parents and she cooks. Her boyfriend asks her to not see her best friends and she doesn't obey and she is in forks because she wanted her mother to be happy. I agree that in New moon she was too mopey, but I see the entire series there, not just new moon. I don't get it.

message 45: by Mindy (new)

Mindy Okay, what are Karou, Clary, Hermione, and Tally doing on this list?

message 46: by Leonor (last edited Jul 09, 2016 01:41PM) (new)

Leonor Fernandes Why isn't Scarlett O'Hara in the first place???????????????

I totally agree with you!

Isa What is Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Graceling, Shadowhunters, Looking for Alaska, Hunger Games, Twiloght and half of this list doing here????????????????

message 50: by Holly (new)

Holly I love this list.

I voted for all the insipid, simpering little twits I have encountered in badly written fiction. The only drawback with fiction is the fact that I can't bitchslap them the way they deserve.
