Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) Is there, by any chance, an online resource that brings all of these recommendations together? I've seen individual interviews where Sorrentino talks about the fiction and poetry that influenced or interested him, but I'm not aware of any document where all of these books (and authors) are compiled in one single place ...

MJ Nicholls These are books he praised in his essay collection Something Said. It's not an official "syllabus" as such, just assembled from those recommendations.

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) I see -- thanks!

FWIW then, the few that I added are favorably mentioned here:

and here:

MJ Nicholls Thanks! I'm sure there are thousands more. Sorrentino said he read over 3000 works of criticism alone. And this was in 2000, six years before his death.

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) Wow. That's truly amazing ...

Wade McReynolds Not all of the writers in Something Said are ones he admired. He seems to have especially disliked Marianne Moore (albeit for political reasons, IIRC).

BookLovingLady And to think I've never even heard of 'the great Gilbert Sorrentino'...

MJ Nicholls ^ Welcome to paradise. Start with Aberration of Starlight.

It might be because I'm Dutch 🙂 I had a look at the Royal Dutch Library to see if any of his work had been translated, and it hadn't.
