Beyond Motherhood: How mothers maintain their intelligent, creative, complex selves while simultaneuously parenting
This is a list of books, meant to inspire and promote positive change, about women who are mothers yet who are also more than mothers; books about those women who are seeking to continue to be full, complex, thinking, and growing individuals without denying or ignoring (or farming out) their simultaneous role as mothers. Good candidates for inclusion on this list are books in which women present themselves as successful role models for managing this difficult balance, especially in the areas of the arts and/or academia (less so in the business world). Please include books in which authors critique, investigate, explore, research, highlight, and/or elucidate this struggle. Works which include the voices and perspectives of low-income mothers, mothers of color, mothers who adopt, and lesbian mothers are especially welcomed.
