Zyla Is Haunting violet historical fiction? I thought it was about a girl who can see ghosts.

message 10: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie It is set in the Victorian era but I don't know if it would strictly count as historical fiction??

message 9: by Allison (new)

Allison I'm also pretty sure that Liar's Moon is fantasy as the previous book took place in a mythical realm in a vague medieval-type setting.

Yeah, I think it is too because I read Starcrossed, the first in the series, and it was set in a vauge medieval setting too.

Kari ohh... i love historical fiction !!!!

message 5: by Natalie (new)

Natalie S. Princess of Glass is definitely NOT historical fiction. It's very much in a fantasy world and is heavily fairy-tale based. Just because there is royalty does not mean it is historical ficiton.

I agree with you, Natalie. The first book in the series, Princess of the Midnight Ball, is a retelling of The Twelve Dancing Sisters and Princess of Glass, the second book in the series, is about one of those sisters after the curse was broken and is a retelling of Cinderella, if I recall correctly. In no way whatsoever is Princess of Glass, or the first and third book for that matter, historical fiction. The third book, Princess of the Silver Woods, is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood and also features one of the twelve sisters from the first book after the curse was broken. Historical fiction is about real places and real times with fictional characters added in or, in a lot of cases, real people with fictionalized stories. Natalie is 100% correct. I know that these comments were added quite awhile ago, but I am a history major, Ancient Greece and Tudor England to be exact, and watching TV shows such as The Tudors or Reign is almost physically painful for me. I love reading historical fiction, but when a book is obviously not historical fiction in any way, I get very uncomfortable. I do love that series, however, as I am a big fan of fairy tale retellings, and I also really like this list! Thank you for making it! :-)

Andrea I deleted two books that didn't belong on this list - Anne of Green Gables, and The Greyhound.
