Devan, Sarcasm Expert ??? Mockingjay hasn't even been released and yet someone knows that the heroine is pathetic? This person must be either clairvoyant or they already have the hard to obtain novel others have been dying to read.

message 2: by CeJayCe (last edited Sep 15, 2010 05:11PM) (new)

CeJayCe Katniss was not pathetic in The Hunger Games, or Catching Fire, and I'm currently reading Mockingjay. She does NOT belong on this list.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

You know a list is messed up when it has a spelling error in its title.

message 4: by Autumn (new)

Autumn Remember that this is an opinion, guys.
People are entitled to their opinions.

After reading Mockingjay right after it came out, I still don't know how I feel about it. But Katniss... just didn't strike me as the Girl On Fire anymore. She seemed... stripped of everything that she was in book one.

I think book one Katniss was amazing. Book two Katniss lost me a little bit, but not much. But book three Katniss wasn't as empowering.
Just an opinion. (:

message 5: by Samita (last edited Oct 18, 2010 08:48AM) (new)

Samita "Horoine"...okay.

message 6: by Derya (new)

Derya For the first time, Twilight for the win! =)

message 7: by Ain020596 (new)

Ain020596 Um, Rose is definitely not pathetic. I'd like to see anybody go through everything she has and not just breaking down and crying for days. She did everything she had to and more, and she's one of the strongest YA female characters ever.

message 8: by ka (new)

ka macedo Ever is the WORST heroine ever. I never hated a character this much.

message 9: by Kogiopsis (new)

Kogiopsis Really? Hush, Hush isn't on there yet? Oh, I'm fixing this right away...

message 10: by Sayshisweetie (new)

Sayshisweetie Why is the hunger games here? plus I am writing a story and i want to see what people think of it, so it would be helpful if you could check it out and comment so i know what to fix! Thanx, sayshisweetie

message 11: by Roisin (new)

Roisin Hah,funny this is a cool list.Pathetic?
Just so you know I love them all.And I don't care if they are pathetic.Even though some of them are pathetic.I love them...

message 12: by Roisin (new)

Roisin you've missed some of the most pathetic ones though...

message 13: by Kelly (new)

Kelly ka wrote: "Ever is the WORST heroine ever. I never hated a character this much."

Haha, so true, I had to give up halfway through the series, she annoyed me too much

message 14: by Abby (new)

Abby How is Katniss pathetic? Yes she was messed up in mockingjay but seriously if you went through a hell like that you'd be pretty messed up and more pathetic then her

message 15: by Gigi (new)

Gigi Beth from Halo literally put feminism back 6000 years

message 16: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Are you serious right now?! How the hell is Susie from The Lovely Bones pathetic. O_O She was raped and killed and was trying to help people capture her killer. REALLY now?

littlebookbosomed bookreview Triv wrote: "Beth from Halo literally put feminism back 6000 years"

Hate to disagree

littlebookbosomed bookreview Hush Hush : Nora? Is she pathetic? Thought she was just having trouble of hormone changes --'

message 19: by Kelley (new)

Kelley While it is good to see the Twilight series on a list where they actually belong, I would be very interested in learning how Jo March of "Little Women" is pathetic. Granted, it's been quite a few years since I have read the book, but I well remember falling in love with Jo (she had literary aspirations just like me) and rooting for her wholeheartedly. In fact, none of the girls in this story are pathetic. Even Beth, ostensibly the shyest and most passive of the four sisters, has a strong moral code that persuades her to care for a sick family even when she knows quite well she might catch the disease herself.

So who is the pathetic heroine in "Little Women"? I don't remember one. We should always be ready to take any book we read in the context of the time period with which it was written, and not expect a heroine created in the nineteenth century to have the mindset of a twenty-first-century feminist.

message 20: by Sara (new)

Sara Shaw This list is STUPID!!!!! Only Belle and Luce deserves this

message 21: by Beatriz (new)

Beatriz 'Little Women' are here? And 'Sylvia Plath'? What is wrong with you, people?

message 22: by Samy (new)

Samy Toro What???? Katniss is AMAZING!!!

message 23: by ☆Dani☆ (new)

☆Dani☆ Kelley wrote: "While it is good to see the Twilight series on a list where they actually belong, I would be very interested in learning how Jo March of "Little Women" is pathetic. Granted, it's been quite a few y..."

Wasn't Amy a bit pathetic though? If I remember right, the other girls all looked down on her because of that, and then she learned some lessons and developed so she wasn't as bad. It's been years since I read it, but maybe that's why it got added?

message 24: by Marina (new)

Marina Mockingjay? Katniss is awesome!

message 25: by Helen (new)

Helen Rhys Carolyn wrote: "Are you serious right now?! How the hell is Susie from The Lovely Bones pathetic. O_O She was raped and killed and was trying to help people capture her killer. REALLY now?"

That's exactly what I thought about Lovely Bones being in this list.
Susie is far from pathetic.

message 26: by negan ! (new)

negan ! Hazel and Tris shouldn't be here...

message 27: by Veggie (last edited Feb 28, 2015 07:34AM) (new)

Veggie The Bell Jar? Let me guess. The only heroines you like are the ones who have no weaknesses at all- or the ones that do but always end up saving the day with an amazingly kickass putdown. jfc

message 28: by Brit (new)

Brit Dargavell Carolyn wrote: "Are you serious right now?! How the hell is Susie from The Lovely Bones pathetic. O_O She was raped and killed and was trying to help people capture her killer. REALLY now?"

THIS! I know it's an 'opinion' but come on! That makes her far from pathetic, even in death she wasn't gonna rest..that makes her pretty amazing in my opinion.

message 29: by Brit (new)

Brit Dargavell This list sucks. I wish I could vote it down.

message 30: by Shacoria (new)

Shacoria Marked is one of the worst books I have ever read in my life. The heroine was a piece of crap and I hated her so much. She belongs at the top of this list!! lol.

message 31: by Kellin (new)

Kellin This list cracks me up. I liked it because I enjoyed several of the books on the list and I want to come back and check out some of the others listed. I guess I prefer the very books you hate. To each their own and thanks for making this list!

message 32: by Jean (new)

Jean Perkins I have read a lot of the books on this list and it makes me laugh because I think I will have to refer back to this list for future books to read. You know good writing when an author can take a character and make you love them or hate them. They also say people usually end up disliking qualities in someone when they hit too close to home. LOL Either way, great list of books!!

message 33: by Margarida (new)

Margarida N. Why is Katniss here? She fought her whole life and ended up traumatized (which, by the way, I love how the writer showed her descending because of the trauma she went though as the books went on and stuff got even worse. That kind of stuff changes a person drastically.), but still found the will to keep going. How is that pathetic? I finished the series thinking ''Holy shit, she actually made it out alive, didn't go completly bonkers and manage to live in some kind of peace.''
