Betty Lance Carbuncle's zany road-trip book had me ROTFLMAO! HILARIOUS!

I hope you don't mind that I added my TOONIES INVADE SILICON VALLEY to this list. Reviewers all say it's inventive and a riot! The situations they get into when they escape from the computer into our world are unbelievable! Uncle WOM is a crack-up!

Scroll all the way to the top and look on the right side of the page, there will be something that says find/add books to the list, it looks like another little search box... you can also click on add from my books.

message 8: by Emma (new)

Emma Anansi Boys was probably the funniest book I've ever read, I had some moments where I was DYING with laughter. Princess Bride is an extremely close second--with a character like Fezzik you know it HAS to be funny!

I 100% agree. I am currently on the hunt for authors who have a similar style . None yet ,however I have made some great finds in my attempt, Christopher Moore and Jasper Fforde, for example.

message 16: by Chris (new)

Chris The best list on listopia so far: really inspires me to read some of these if I get that therapeutic chuckle along the way.

message 17: by Echo (new)

Echo Princess Bride is a favorite, Douglas Adams is cute, but Good Omens is, hands down, the funniest book I've ever read in my life. I first read it during lunch breaks at work, and coworkers were continually walking in on me giggling like a crazy person. (Which they probably decided I was when they asked what I was reading and I replied, "A book about an angel and a demon trying to prevent the Apocalypse and the Antichrist being misplaced.")
On a side note: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was funny? . . . I missed something.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Good to see Good Omens and so much Pratchett. (Got to see Sir Terry in Madison, WI this summer. He's a sharp in person as he is in print.) I'd add to the list the just-released Ballad of Young Tam Lin. Not a LOL on every page (it's a historical fantasy romance), but a reasonable proportion of the the character description and dialogue does anything from bring a smile to one's face, to generate those head-turning guffaws on public transportation. (You can get a free preview on Kindle - you don't need a Kindle to do it.)

message 22: by Andrew✌️ (new)

Andrew✌️ The Books of Terry Pratchett are always funny. However, I would added to list others books of Guards Series, like Feet of Clay (Discworld, #19) by Terry Pratchett and Men at Arms (Discworld, #15) by Terry Pratchett . Regarding Douglas Adams, his books aren't always so funny, but are full of brilliant ideas.

message 23: by Dr. (new)

Dr. I love the Stephanie Plum books. They are uplifting, funny and there is a mystery too. What more could you want?

message 25: by Miss Ryoko (new)

Miss Ryoko So happy to see so many of Christopher Moore's books out there! By far the best author out there!!

message 26: by Linda (new)

Linda I know The Rosie Project just came out in US but I read this summer in Canada and has to be one of the funniest I've read, right up there with Christopher Moore.

message 27: by Louise Sparrow (new)

Louise Sparrow Bentley wrote: "Terry Pratchett makes me laugh more than any other author, by far."

Totally agree.

I know humour is very subjective but I have to say that I find some of the later choices a bit odd, I mean there are some books on there that I loved but funny? Not really, though I'm sure they had their moments.

message 28: by Miss Ryoko (new)

Miss Ryoko I agree with you Louise... I also raised an eyebrow to a few because I definitely wouldn't consider them humorous at all. But... guess others did.

Donna Davis Travelin wrote: "Life of Pi, #193 as comedy. Too many victims of bad plot, thinking the humour is intentional..."

I hear you, but the title of the list is "Books that Make You Laugh", and apparently 15 people laughed when they read this book.

I checked for Romeo and Juliet, as mentioned above, but did not see it in the first 6 pages. Books that are clearly misplaced by some sicko can get deleted, and if people will include the book's number on the list or the page it's on at the time they see it, then I can find it and zap it. An example that I found on a different humor listopia awhile back was The Diary of Anne Frank. I removed it and documented it, because it wasn't just someone's iffy sense of humor on display, but the act of a troll at best, and a hate crime at worst.

Goodreads has long had a very strict policy about what books may or may not be removed from a list. A book that plainly does not meet the criteria can get yanked, but a book that simply does not meet my own personal criteria, or yours, could end my Goodreads membership, at least potentially. And bear in mind that for some time now, only volunteer librarians--professionals that qualify as librarians but are willing to do this free--moderate and edit the listopias, so nobody out there is being paid to do it. It's something we do because we like Goodreads and we like open-ended lists.
