Bettie ooops The Old Curiosity Shop is only 608 pages!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads I'll remove it.

message 3: by Misfit (new)

Misfit Gasp! We have a three way tie for first place.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads More voters will help that. Well, probably.

message 5: by Lee (new)

Lee I happen to be reading a 1400 page monster right now.

Lee Hey Bettie! Cooking up some cupcakes and reading some Sacajawea! :-)

Bettie Lee wrote: "Hey Bettie! Cooking up some cupcakes and reading some Sacajawea! :-)"

Sorry I take so long to respond. I have been out 'scouting' around to see the score-on-the-door for Sacajawea and it is coming back to me as a two thumbs up!

Are they chocolate cupcakes? are they DOUBLE chocolate cupcakes?

*swoons with longing/vapours/bustle rub/chocolate deprivation*

message 9: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Awesome idea & name & pic for the list, Bettie!

Oh, and Susanna - good call on Russka. I think I've forgotten that I've read more gorillas than I realized!

message 10: by Bettie (new)

Bettie Thankee Cindy - it was kind of a joint idea with Susanna. I think we have all read more Gorillaz than we initially thought we had!

message 11: by Barb (new)

Barb I didn't remember that 'The Sunne In Splendour' was so long. I recall thinking that 'I Know This Much Is True' would have been better with another hundred pages or so. They are the only two gorillas I think I've read...

Lee Bettie wrote: "Lee wrote: "Hey Bettie! Cooking up some cupcakes and reading some Sacajawea! :-)"

Well, not exactly double chocolate cupcakes. More like chocolate with um green buttercream icing. M's choice! Still quite tasty.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Mmmmm, buttercream.

ღ Carol jinx~☆~☔ʚϊɞ Some of these aren't 800 pages. In Cold Blood is only 343 pages.

And Shogun has been listed twice with two different editions... I'm a librarian, but I don't know how to handle that... over to you Susanna!

message 17: by Misfit (new)

Misfit I didn't realize Here be Dragons was 800 pages. We have a new lead this morning.

message 18: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 16, 2010 07:41AM) (new)

But not if the two Shoguns get merged!! I see everyone revoted so I will remove the other one.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Ah, I see you beat me to it, Hayes.

message 41: by Bettie (new)

Bettie Because the initial vote was from an Italian lady and that works.
:O)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads And presumably no one has added an edition with more reviewers, as that would be dominant on combine.

message 43: by Thoughtdome225 (new)

Thoughtdome225 The way you have spelt Gorillaz here made me think it was something to do with Damon Albarn's virtual trip-hop band.

message 44: by BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) (last edited Nov 10, 2014 04:45AM) (new)

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) I noticed Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5) being on #1. I immediately checked my own Dutch copy, because I was fairly sure the book I'd read wasn't over 800 pages. It turned out my Dutch translation is less than 700 pages... Bearing in mind that Dutch texts are usually slightly longer than the same texts in English, it set me wondering... :-) Bettie, how does one determine whether or not a book is over 800 pages long...?

The edition of Daniel Deronda (#49) mentioned is less than 800 pages. So is the edition of The Quincunx (#54). The mentioned edition of The Brothers Karamazov (#13) is less than 800 pages as well (which is odd, as my Dutch paperback translation is nearly 1200 pages). I very much doubt whether The Pickwick Papers (#33) will be long enough, discounting notes and so on, as the edition mentioned has only 801 pages...

P.S.
Don't get me wrong, I do like your list :-)

Hello there - the version listed as #1 here is the scholastic version: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... which comes in at 870 pages and fits the bill.

To remove an edition of a book that does not fit the bill requires a librarian, which I am not, and most of the librarians who are still around on grramazon quite rightly refuse to do any librariany type things since all their hard work was undone earlier this year.

We still have fun where we can find it and hope you will too.
:O)

message 48: by Andrew (last edited Jan 05, 2015 11:49AM) (new)

Andrew Obrigewitsch I recommend a no Young Adult book stipulation for a list like this. As people looking for massive tomes, aren't normally looking for YA books.

message 49: by Bettie (new)

Bettie Andrew wrote: "I recommend a no Young Adult book stipulation for a list like this. As people looking for massive tombs, aren't normally looking for YA books."

Aaaw Andrew, as you can see, this list has items from all the genres, which is just how I wanted it to be: a list for everyone to enjoy and add to. No exclusions.

And people looking for massive tombs are, in the main, pharonic by nature. LOL

Happy New Year, everyone.

message 50: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Obrigewitsch I just think it's a bit funny that some had to get that one Harry Potter book on the list, even though it's a mid series book.

I come to lists to find new books to read that fit the category. So, seeing a mid series book on the list because it's the only book in the series that fits the criteria does not help me in anyway shape or form.
