Books Banned in the Texas Prison System

What do Jon Stewart, William Shakespeare, Sojouner Truth, Juan Williams, Jenna Bush, 50 Cent, John Grisham, Noam Chomsky, Stephen King, John Updike, Kurt Vonnegut, Jack Kerouac, Gore Vidal, George Orwell, Gustave Flaubert, George Carlin, and Sister Helen Prejean have in common?

They have each written at least one book banned in Texas prisons.

I find it fascinating what books are challenged and banned in different contexts. This is an incomplete list of books that are forbidden to be sent to inmates in the Texas prison system. Reasons for bans include: sexual content, racial issues, references to drugs/crime/gangs/prison conditions and homosexuality.

Chomsky on Anarchism from 2005, banned for 'racial content'.

Rachelle.marek The Courage to Heal - WHY IS THIS BANNED?!?!?! It's a self-help book. This is so incredibly sad.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Is there a source list?

Good question. I'd been wondering about that myself.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* They ban a few books on trauma and self-help. Also Stopping Rape: A Challenge For Men

Disturbing bans

I follow this stuff on Twitter and social media and have been posting a few articles on this nonsense for years. It's ridiculous.

There have been many articles over the years and lists.

Here's some:

Perhaps because of the perceptive-bias cases it has been reported to induce.

Nathan Van Horn "Reasons for bans include: sexual content, racial issues, references to drugs/crime/gangs/prison conditions and homosexuality."

Anyone know why A Charlie Brown Christmas made this list? Which of those reasons does it fall under?
