Thank you for your interest and enthusiasm, Greer

For what its worth my two cents. Technically you are most probably right. But then one would have to say this about so many other authors who write on Africa too, Kuki Gallman who is Italian. Gareth Patterson who is British and so the list could go on and on. I personally think maybe the fact they lived there and experienced the country they wrote about, is enough to qualify them ? Cry for the Lions by G. Patterson is a gem of a conservation book to come 'Out of Africa'
It is also only in recent years that people "from Africa" (born there) have decided to pen memoirs etc, but I notice that all have 'mostly left Africa' and then been inspired "out of a heart that yearns to be back" to write a book. But previously it is mostly 'outsiders' who had brief sojourns into the continent who wrote anything about Africa. What you say is an interesting thought.

I don't see why not - she lived in Kenya long enough to qualify her as being of Africa at least.

Gareth has lived the best part of his life in Africa - as far as I know he still lives in Africa, now in SA, in the Cape.

You have a very interesting point there... and yes, perhaps you are right there but I for one, born in Africa, wrote all my books in Africa and while I've just completed my first non-fiction book in the UK I will be returning to Africa to live in a couple of months. Thank you for taking an interest! :)

I know a poet that penned something to this effect,
' Land not of my fathers and not of my birth,
yet this is 'my' land on this here earth !
The authors mentioned qualify as far as I am concerned !
wishing you all a great year in 2015
