Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) Hmm. This one is a challenge! Great idea, though.

From your tagging the list "rainbow" I conclude that depictions of (flashes of) lightning count as well? (Or would you rather have me remove these books?)

Bettie Hello there Themis - bring on anything that rips the blue. There is a novel out there where the sky is ripped open by something from another universe, my mind can picture it that cover but...

... any ideas?


Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) You wouldn't happen to mean the beginning of "Gravity's Rainbow," would you? ("A screaming comes across the sky" -- etc.) Worth inclusion in the list for that beginning alone, come to think of it.

Or the jet of fire shooting out of Mars at the beginning of "The War of the Worlds"?

Thanks for War of the World, it's not quite that which is still in my minds eye but it fits in here pretty well. I haven't read Pynchon's tome yet.
