I think I will second that. It's not BDSM since none of what was done to Lee was ever consensual - rape, beatings, drugging, starvation. It's torture and abuse.

BDSM group especially should try and make an effort to separate these two very different concepts.

I love the book, but I have to take my vote back. Sorry.

Hi Mamarella, I appreciate your perspective. And it's okay if you don't consider it BDSM.

I did specify we consider it BDSM Fantasy which is a very popular subgenre. It is completely non-consensual. It also has nothing to do with the lifestyle.

We have categorized with tags on our shelves to reflect this sub genre.

The tallies are in! Power Play: Awakening is number choice for Favourite BDSM M-M 2012.

Well, have to admit, our shelf is pretty thin on it. We do have it HERE.

Every once in a while I have to go audit it because it is confusing. Plus a lot of books that qualify are not on GR. We have to manually add it which is a pain. Most of the books are not available through Amazon either.

There aren't many who read it. It used to be just Miss Asima, Jo and myself that read them and added it to the list. Now there is a group who reads just this kind of genre. Although, they don't always read as hard, deviant and sadistic. ^_^

Oh, I forgot to mention, which we can do as discussion else where *wink wink* but if you look at a lot of BDSM "scenes" they actually come from medieval tortures so, if we are going technical and from a historical aspect...

Yeah, I kinda know the history, but prefer the modern lifestyle with all the rules ;)

I've read several of abuse after abuse. I can't read it all the time because it messes with my head. I have to take it in small doses. I have author names if you want. Most are maledom with M/f though. There are disturbing femdom ones with F/m. I don't find it as much in M/m. Or it could just be that I'm not reading them as much. I dunno.

I can't read several in a row either, but I like it and only if it has a HEA. Just added a few, looking through various lists: dub-con, non-con, Depraved Minds Club... :D
