Ben I know "Black History" usually refers to African Americans, but can we include books related to issues faced by Black people in other parts of the world (i.e. Africa)?

I added some African books to my list. I think when people learn about Black History, they should learn about all that it encompasses (just my theory).

message 3: by Ben (new)

Ben Cool! I agree. I added some non-fiction on African topics as well.

Kerry Thank you!

Jack Hi everyone,

I have created a new group called Goodreads All Sorts and I'd love for people to join it or just even just give it a look. It's a group that discusses anything and everything. There will be monthly group reads, movies, and music. There is a folder for everything you could think of. I'd really like if people could spread the word because I'd love for the group to be a success. Here is the link to the group:

http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/9...

Thanks very much,
Jack :-)

why not? black is black...

Garth My vote is for Bebe Moore Campbell's Your Blues Ain't Like Mine.

Whenever I hear someone rave about The Help, I suggest they read Your Blues Ain't Like Mine. The Help has good parts, but on the whole Your Blues Ain't Like Mine -- a novel based on the Emmett Till murder -- seems so much more realistic and honest about how horrible conditions were for African-Americans in the 1950s South.

Here's a post I wrote about the novel for Newsworthy Novels, a blog that matches novels to today's headlines and events (this entry was for Black History Month): http://newsworthynovels.blogspot.com/...

message 8: by Erich (new)

Erich Hicks Keep history alive and well by telling that history:

Read the epic novel, “Rescue at Pine Ridge”, where Buffalo Bill Cody meets a Buffalo Soldier, the greatest epic 'novel’ ever written. A great story of Black Military History, the first generation of Buffalo Soldiers...5 stars Amazon internationally, and Barnes & Noble. The website is; http://www.rescueatpineridge.com Youtube commercials are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEgEqg... and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVslyH...

Rescue at Pine Ridge is the epic story of the 9th Cavalry from its Congressional conception in 1866, to the rescue of the famed 7th Cavalry by the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, 1890. The 7th Cavalry was entrapped again after the Little Big Horn Massacre, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, there would of occurred, a second massacre of the 7th Cavalry. This story is about, brutality, compassion, bravery, gallantry, reprisal, heroism and redemption.

I know you’ll enjoy the novel. I wrote the story that embodied the Native Americans, Outlaws and African-American/Black Soldiers, from the east to the west, from the south to the north, in the days of the Native American Wars with the approaching United States of America.

The novel was taken from my mini-series movie with the same title, “RaPR” to keep the story alive. The movie so far has the interest of major actors in which we are in talks with, in starring in this epic American story.

When you get a chance, also please visit our Alpha Wolf Production website at; http://www.alphawolfprods.com and see our other productions, like Stagecoach Mary, the first Black Woman to deliver mail for the United States Postal System in Montana, in the 1890's, “spread the word”.

Peace.

message 10: by Brethan (new)

Brethan Bray Africans for Tudor England is my current number one book. The history of Black people in England often is not highlighted and lost and on a global perspective Black people in England are seen as immigrants though we have been here since the inception of Briton.

Take are read.. you will be inspired to find out more.
