Jess If any librarian wishes to remove some of the excessive "poo" books, feel free to do so. I get it, it's funny, but do there need to be so many of them?

Beth I've often wished this. I think I'm going to start a thread in Feedback about it.

Tammie This is hilarious!

message 17: by Keith (last edited May 26, 2016 12:31PM) (new)

Keith I decided to come up with some blurbs/plot summaries for a few of these:

-The Rave: A man gets over his existential depression by going to an underground club, taking some MDMA, dancing for twelve hours to sick Eurotrance beats, and making out with a woman he's never met before.
-Gertrude McFuzz and the Big Bra: A woman comes to terms with changes to her body after her first pregnancy.
-Magic Stud: Throbber Oakstaff is the most attractive young wizard at Midnight Orb Arcane College, and he takes full advantage of that fact during his first few months on campus. But then a succubus hits him with a paternity suit, elf triplets he bedded on consecutive nights destroy the Pyromancy Wing while fighting over him, and worst of all, his parents embarrass him when they come to visit. Could it be time to turn over a new leaf?
-The Tale of Peter Rabbi: A heart-wrenching story for children about a young rabbi who risks everything to save children from the Warsaw Ghetto.
-Alice in Tim: Alice asks Tim if he would be willing to try something special in the bedroom for International Women's Day
-The Potato Factor: In this exciting Cold War thriller presenting the conflict from the other side of the Iron Curtain, a Polish spy uncovers a plot to sabotage the Eastern Bloc's vodka supply.
-Show Jumping Tea: In a world where Britishness rules all, one woman dares to suggest a way to make the annual Royal Equestrian Display even more British...
-The Spy Who Loved M: James Bond has always had a secret he could never tell anyone. But now he dares to open his heart to the one who has always been there for him...
-The Secret Pear: In a world where fruit is reserved for the privileged few, one man dared to take a chance and defy the system...

Hahaha! So funny! You should do more of them.

message 19: by Keith (new)

Keith Ask and ye shall receive.

-Reaper Ma: A teenage girl discovers that her mother is actually the anthropomorphic personification of Death.
-Lady and the Tram: One woman's decade-long struggle to introduce affordable public transport to her home city.
-Time After Tim: After their breakup following a disastrous bedroom experiment (see Alice In Tim), Alice takes some time to put herself back together and learn to love again.
-Baa: Shocking body-horror tale of a man who begins turning into a sheep.
-Thunderwit: The story of a woman so funny, her jokes make people fall over and go deaf.
-How To Be Goo: A practical guide to shapeshifting magic.
-Of Nightingales That Wee: A man is plagued by an army of small birds who keep urinating on his prized car.
-Clap Your Hand: A beginner's guide to Zen philosophy.

message 20: by Caroline (new)

Caroline Hilarious, Keith! I can hardly pick a favorite, but I think I'll go with "-Alice in Tim: Alice asks Tim if he would be willing to try something special in the bedroom for International Women's Day"

and "-Of Nightingales That Wee: A man is plagued by an army of small birds who keep urinating on his prized car."

:D

message 21: by Keith (last edited May 26, 2016 09:27AM) (new)

Keith Some more:

-The Communist Manifest: International Communism takes on an anthropomorphic personification in the form of a perky young woman who gets into a fiery love triangle with the manifestations of Authoritarianism (a dark and brooding bad boy who wears black leather) and Democratic Socialism (a sensitive New Man who wears cardigans and eats granola every morning). Which will she choose? And will the world survive?
-The Sigh: Introspective novel about a man who spends weeks trying to figure out what his girlfriend meant when she sighed at his suggestion that he quit his job and start an organic cork-burning business.
-Ribs: A Southern barbecue joint serves up the best ribs in America. No-one knows the secret of their recipe...but it surely couldn't be connected to all the disappearing homeless people in the area? Right?
-Beyond the Cod: With North Sea fish stocks dangerously depleted, a fish and chip shop in Aberdeen explores vegetarian menu options.
-Navy Bra: A US Navy seawoman designs more comfortable undergarments for her sisters in arms.

These are all great! I think my favorite is...

-Gertrude McFuzz and the Big Bra: A woman comes to terms with changes to her body after her first pregnancy.

Because it's so true! I just can't stop laughing :)

message 23: by Sharoza (new)

Sharoza I just removed four duplicates.
P.S. I had to bite my cheeks so hard, they are bleeding. All because I didn't want my mom to come into my room and see me rolling around on the floor like a lunatic.

message 24: by Keith (new)

Keith I'll keep making these until I run out of books or people stop finding them funny. :-D

-The Andalite's Gif: A member of an obscure religious sect creates an animated image and posts it on Tumblr, revolutionizing the online world with its memetic power...for about three days, until Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch appear in a movie together and everyone forgets about the Gif.
-Forrest Gum: Jim Forrest had a dream...a dream to create the world's best chewing gum. Because he believed in himself, and because he lived in America, he succeeded. But then his product became so successful that a Panama-based conglomerate mounted a hostile takeover and took the company from him, so he decided to become a Communist.
-Beware of Pit: A fascinating and hilarious book of photographs of grammatically incorrect road and warning signs around the world.
-Manifold: Tim: After a messy breakup (see Alice In Tim and Time After Tim), Tim decides to dedicate his life to science and makes a major breakthrough in the study of parallel universes.
-The Queen's Arm: A riding accident during a royal hunt leads to an international incident.
-The Silver Pea: A prankster paints a metal bead green and inserts it into a princess' lunch, causing her to break a tooth, which leads to an international incident. (Sequel to The Queen's Arm.)
-Red Rabbi: After being liberated from an extermination camp by the Red Army, a Polish rabbi dedicates his life to spreading Communism around the world.
-The Merry Adventures of Robin Hoo: An owl becomes an unlikely freedom fighter in 13th-century England.
-The Grass Dance: Evocative coming-of-age novel in which, one warm summer's night, a young man encounters a group of hippies who invite him to smoke marijuana with them and dance through the fields.
-A Killer Among U: Teenagers are murdered by a killer who hates the use of incorrect grammar in text messages.
-The Great God Pa: A man takes "Father knows best" to its logical conclusion in managing his household.

(No, I don't know why I keep coming up with ones about Communism.)

A KIller Among U was a good one, I'd just love a murder mystery story where the motive of the killer is just being a grammar nazi.

"What your going to kill me?"

"YOU'RE!"

message 27: by Rory (last edited Jun 01, 2016 01:08AM) (new)

Rory I've got a couple myself

The Sound and the Fur: A man who is obsessed with conspiracies about myths and legends goes on a quest to track down Bigfoot, only his plans take a different direction when he stumbles across a furry convention.

The Graveyard Boo: A playful ghost becomes aware of the internet and decides to create his own prank channel.

Far from the Madding Crow: An old woman decides to hatch a daring escape plan from the tyrannical nursing home she was sent to by her own children.

Gone with the Win: Two contestants on The Price is Right, after losing, decide to work up the courage and go on various heist missions.

Hope you like them.

message 28: by Keith (new)

Keith I like the concept of The Graveyard Boo - it sounds a bit like those assorted J-horror stories involving ghosts interacting with modern technology (Ringu, One Missed Call, etc.), but in a different genre.

Some more:

-The Women's Roo: A heartwarming tale about a group of women who adopt an orphaned kangaroo and teach it to kick misogynists in the groin.
-Angelfir: An angel is imprisoned in a fir tree by an evil sorceror and must convince a woodcutter's daughter to set it free.
-The Music Mag: Multi-generational epic about the rise and fall of a rock magazine.
-Storm Sire: A girl discovers that her father was a meteorological phenomenon.
-Mara, Daughter of the Nil: The daughter of the world's worst football player fights to redeem her father's reputation.

This is for those that were thinking the movie 'In Time' wasn't crazy enough.

message 33: by Keith (new)

Keith I'm intrigued by the one about the son who keeps sniffing windows - what does he know that his mother doesn't?

Yet more:

-Squish Rabbi: Highly controversial novel about a Nazi officer hunting down his Jewish archnemesis.
-A Good Boy Is Hard To Fin: A comedic tale of romance and body modification among young merfolk.
-Egil's Sag: A Viking warrior must cope with weight gain and muscle loss as he enters middle age.
-Mirror Sigh: Contemporary novel about depression and body image.
-Tor: Atmospheric horror about murders taking place near Glastonbury.
-The Dancers At The End Of Tim: The final novel in the saga of Tim (see previous posts), as the successful scientist reflects on his life and experiences bizarre but beautiful hallucinations as he slips into death.
-Sheepish: Two Women, Fifty Sheep, and Enough Wool to Save the Plane: A pair of female aviation engineers mount a very strange operation to enable a damaged passenger aircraft to safely land.

message 39: by Fiona (new)

Fiona Hurley These blurbs are all hilarious but I particularly like:
Keith wrote: "The Spy Who Loved M: James Bond has always had a secret he could never tell anyone. But now he dares to open his heart to the one who has always been there for him..."

I'm wondering if this is the Bernard Lee, Judy Dench, or Ralph Fiennes version of M. Either way I'd be happy :)

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) Took me a while to find some but knowing the titles and contents, 'bar' instead of 'barn' and 'ban' instead of 'bang' made me grin when I went to my list of books, so I've added them :-)

And what to think of a certain English translation of a book by Franz Kafka? It made me laugh out loud 😂

I won't mention (the full) titles, which was my reason for laughing :-) Just have a look and see for yourselves.

Artemis Fowl and the Eternity Cod - 13-year-old child prodigy Artemis Fowl has created a robotic fish machine that could threaten the marine ecosystem in Kola Bay (it releases coke and high carbon dioxide that suffocates fish). By accident the "Eternity Cod' has escaped and is now captured by a businessman who threatens to wreck the fishing industry.

The Tales of Beedle the Bar - A short story collection featuring daily occurrences and peculiar customers in Beedle's pub.

The Hobbi - A boy who can't spell correctly. He confuses 'y' and 'i' forever. His favourite 'hobbi' is to stay at home, cook and perhaps fighting a dragon in his spare time.

Animal Far - All these happened in a galaxy far, far away...

Keith Some more:

The Lord of the Ring: Drama about a boxer named Smeagol who feels on top of the world whenever he's in the ring, but depressed and worthless when he's outside it, berating himself and calling himself "Gollum".
The Other Win: Bob is known around the world for winning an Olympic gold medal in sprinting. But he won something else that day...something he can never speak of.
Grey Lensma: An elderly mother of three is unexpectedly summoned to become a member of an interplanetary police force.
Thin Ai: A Japanese model suffers with anorexia, and receives only mockery when she reaches out for help.
Ender's Gam: An elderly man named Andrew/Ender suffers from a mysterious pain in his leg.
The Rediscovery of Ma: A group of siblings re-connect with their estranged mother and discover that not only has she been having some surprising adventures since they last saw her, she had plenty of surprising adventures before and just after they were born, as well.
