History through Novels: Pre-1900s Middle East
Novels set in Pre-1900s Middle East that give a sense of the time and place.
For the purpose of this list, the "Middle East" will include the areas that are now the Maghreb countries of northern Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya), Egypt, the Levant countries (Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, and the Palestinian territories), the Arabian Gulf countries (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen), Iraq, Iran, and Turkey.

Yes, it seems we need a clarification/some structure as to just what countries to include here. Then I can start to list in earnest.

List has been posted. Turkey has to be included: it was the seat of the Ottoman Empire. And the term "Near East" has fallen out of usage while the term "Middle East," for better or worse, continues to be used.

As a definition I found :
"The Middle East (or West Asia) sits where Africa, Asia and Europe meet. The countries of the Middle East are all part of Asia"
