message 2: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Robinson I was wondering the same thing. I don't think a few of the last books listed were Oprah books.

These are not "Oprah" books. I am deleting them. The Lovely Bones is getting deleted too for the same reason.

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers

message 26: by Lynn (new)

Lynn What I really enjoyed about Oprahs book list?..Being introduced to difficult different types of Authors. Some I would not have read if left on my own to choose a book..I found I was playing it safe with my reading until then.Once I started reading the likes of Toni Morrison? I really REALLY learned how to read-to see-to feel.To discover a culture different from my own and enter foreign territory.I began to find myself loving the more intense inquisitive read.I was not alone either, as at my job as a nurse we were passing all these books around. There was much diversity between us.We found ourselves not only sharing about the books but life in general. We were from all different backgrounds. It brought us together in an amicable way.My favorite times were when I would come into work at 7am and we would be laughing about how the alarm clock went off at 5 am and we realized we had never stopped reading to sleep..it was a common occurrence for some. I miss that job and all those of us who lost touch..

message 33: by Amber (new)

Amber Removed "The Secret Life of Bees" for not being a "book club" book.

message 34: by Amber (new)

Amber Removed "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson. It's not on the list of Oprah's books.

Sarah I just added the underground railroad by Colson Whitehead since I just got an announcement that it was added to o's book club list and I verified on her page. Now I look forward to reading it!!

message 37: by Mariah Roze (new)

Mariah Roze I have not read a single book on her list… Wow!

message 38: by Beth (new)

Beth I have read 32 of the77. 17 received five stars, 11 received four stars, 3 received three stars and 1 received two stars. Cry, The Beloved Country comes to mind as well as The Poisonwood Bible. I have read almost everything by Kingsolver. White Oleander also stands out.

What a wonderful experience. I feel the same way about her selections.

Amber Pat wrote: "34 and 69 are repeated- A Tale of Two Cities"

Pat, I saw that too. Unfortunately, I can't remove or duplicate them because one of them is a book that contains both novels, A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations, which are both Oprah's picks. It's kind of irritating to me that I can't fix it or separate the votes.

message 42: by Amber (new)

Amber I am excited that Oprah has picked 2 new books recently for her book club:

The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead

and

Love Warrior: A Memoir by Glennon Doyle Melton

I am also removing a couple of books that have been added but are not part of the book club books.

Before Women Had Wings by Connie May Fowler
The Last Time They Met by Anita Shreve

message 43: by Rachel (new)

Rachel I went thru the list and added one book -Love Warrior
by Glennon Doyle Melton , i think its a recent addition to Oprah book club.

I also found that there are two additional books thats not a part of oprah book club:
The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd
Edna in the Desert by Maddy Lederman

since i m not the owner of the list i cannot delete these two entries

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Listopias have no "owner." Any GR Librarian should be able to remove books.

Thanks Rachel. I am going to remove the books now. I am not the "owner" of the list, but I have been trying to keep it correct.

message 46: by Pam (new)

Pam Walker A lot of good books to stretch your mind, even the ones not on the "official" list. JMHO

DON'T LET'S GO TO THE DOGS TONIGHT (alexandra fuller) is a great, enjoyable book.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads That's not the question. The question is if it's on Oprah's list or not.
