message 1: by Ubik (new)

Ubik Why isnt Time and Again #1???!!!!?!?!

message 2: by Muzzlehatch (new)

Muzzlehatch Because very new books always do best in polls like these. Anyway, I'd think the grandaddy, and still the most visionary of time travel novels, "The Time Machine", ought to be #1.

message 3: by Nancy (new)

Nancy People read the most current work and have forgotten or have never heard of the earlier works. Muzzlehatch is absolutely right about polls like these, but I vote for Time and Again. Definitely a classic.

message 4: by Terri (new)

Terri Now I have a lot more books I need to read. LOL

message 5: by Misty (new)

Misty How is To Kill a Mockingbird time travel?

message 6: by Maryanne (new)

Maryanne Raphael I like books about yesterday or today In general I do not like books about tomorroW. I did like Stranger in a Strange Land and Brave New World and 1984 when that was future Maryanne

message 7: by Katty (new)

Katty Why is To Kill a Mockingbird on a list of books about time travel?

message 8: by Richard (new)

Richard Novak Nice to see people will be reading books they may not be familiar with. There really WAS stuff written before 1980

Love & blessings
Richard

message 9: by Leela4 (new)

Leela4 What's "Island of the Blue Dolphins" doing at #47 with five votes? There's no time travel in it. Just because it takes place two hundred years ago doesn't make it a time travel book.

message 10: by Eric (new)

Eric Shaffer Terri wrote: "Now I have a lot more books I need to read. LOL"

Yes, but now, you have plenty of time.

Mike Rochlen No Rant?? Great time travel book...

message 12: by Hayes (new)

Hayes Curious Incident... don't remember time travel...

message 13: by Namedujour (new)

Namedujour I think the person who posted Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime was confusing that book with To Say Nothing of the Dog, by Connie Willis. That is a wonderful, funny time travel book!

Not about time travel! I was surprised to see it too. Its about autism and very good.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Green Darkness is about reincarnation not time travael if I rmember right.

message 17: by Leela4 (last edited Oct 19, 2010 11:49AM) (new)

Leela4 Ugh! Clicking Jody's link above (message 17) automatically makes you join the group.

To un-join, there's an "edit membership" link in the right half of the screen.

message 18: by Leela4 (new)

Leela4 The description and reviews of "The Aventurion" don't imply anything about time travel. Is M.R.'s post just deceptive advertising?

message 19: by Debbie (new)

Debbie I read a book when I was a kid and don't know the name. Maybe someone could help me. The book was about a girl who learned how to "turn a corner" in a certain way and ended up in another "dimension of time". In one dimension JFK was killed in 1963 and in another dimension he lived to an old age and played with his many grandchildren. Needless to say, the book was published in the '60s, after '63. The book is not appropriate to this group, but I'm thinking some of you may have read it and know what it is.

message 20: by Betsy (last edited Mar 18, 2011 01:15PM) (new)

Betsy Kristin Hannah's earlier books were re-incarnation romances, and I just loved them. Her humor was excellent. Some of the Titles were The Enchanchment,Once in Every Lifetime and Waiting Down the Moon. The one I particulary enjoyed was a young blind researcher who chooses from an " after-life video selection " of men she needs to love and rescue. The line that really cracked me up was the young researcher's question: " What is this, Dating for the Dead?"

message 21: by Eric (new)

Eric Shaffer I agree on The Curious Incident; there is no time travel. Someone is confused.

message 22: by Blake (new)

Blake Sadly, I've only read 3 of the books on this list, so those are the ones I voted for. I can't think of any other books I've read that have dealt with time travel that aren't on this list in order to add any. But I've always found time travel an interesting subject, and I've attempted to write several short stories using various time travel concepts. It just seems hard to accomplish without leaving huge holes in the plot.

message 23: by Tej (last edited Nov 12, 2011 05:29AM) (new)

Tej Well this list certainly seems comprehensive, I'll use it as a reference! Thank you!

But it is not definitive. There are 7 time travel books I have read and enjoyed immensely that are not on the lis. All of these are in my top 10 favourite TT books. But glad to see my all time favourite is on this awesome mega list which is Tom's Midnight Garden.

Edit: Apologies, I didnt realise we can add to the list so I shall add them now :) Edit 2: Not sure how this voting works, are we allowed to vote more than 1 book then? As I see the only way to add books is to vote them in. Do we vote for all our favourites?

message 24: by Travis (new)

Travis How is the Phantom Tollbooth time travel?

Great book, but no time travel.

message 25: by Andy (new)

Andy Removed: The Phantom Tollbooth.

message 26: by RachelAnne (new)

RachelAnne The Sparrow is an absolutely stunning book, but I do not recall any time travel in it. There is interstellar space travel, and the tale is told in flashbacks, but there isn't any time travel.

message 27: by Lianne (new)

Lianne Great list, I found some interesting time travel books through it (I love the theme of time travel)! However, much as I love Anne Fortier's Juliet I don't know why it's on this list, there's no time travel involved in the story, just historical chapters (book #339)

message 28: by Andy (new)

Andy These two removed: The Sparrow and Juliet: A Novel

Laura the Highland Hussy I don't recall any Time Travel in Meyer's The Host, or KMM's To Tame A Highland Warrior
And KMM's The Immortal Highlander doesn't have time travel per se, it's more he's immortal. But with the amount of votes up maybe that isn't a big deal?

message 30: by Jude (new)

Jude Pokorny I read a time travel book, possibly written in the 70's or 80's where a man in a highrise office in NY, would look out a window, and when he saw it snowing, was transported to the early 1900's. He would be in NY in Teddy Roosevelt's time. Had a current day girlfriend who was a pschycologist. He was hunted by something from the past. I would love to know the name of the book. Read it about 15 years ago

message 31: by Ian (new)

Ian Wardell An excellent book featuring time travel.

Darlene Prisoner of Azkaban does not belong in this category.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads What do you consider the last part of the book, then? Sounds like time travel to me.

message 35: by Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (last edited Jul 06, 2013 09:17AM) (new)

That sounds something like Time and Again, by Jack Finney.

message 36: by John (new)

John Gribbin Timeswitch
If I don't add it nobody will!

message 37: by Travis (new)

Travis No Doctor Who?

How did that happen?

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads You're free to add it, if you like. At the top of the list, at the tab next to "all votes."

I would assume there isn't Dr. Who on there because no one else added it.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads How is there time travel in The Man in the High Castle?

message 40: by Jim (new)

Jim thirty plus years since i've tried to read "man in the high castle" alternate history, isn't it? time travel of a sort.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads I read it last week.

I don't interpret alternate history as time travel, per se.

message 42: by Jim (new)

Jim i'm guessing the person who added it is older.
i don't remember alternate history as a catagory when i started selling books in the 70s. through the 80s the main types of s.f.(Never sci-fi) were hard, opera, fantasy, newwave, tolkien, conan or tolkien/conan knock(rip)offs i.e terry brooks and gor.

message 43: by Leighton (new)

Leighton Edmondson I wonder if anyone remembers a book with a time travel belt
written at least 20 years ago

message 44: by Raymond (last edited Dec 16, 2013 04:43PM) (new)

Raymond White Okay, so now I have even MORE books to read. Poor me, heh, heh. I love anything by Aasimov, Heinlein or Pohl. And even though I'm not much on romance, I enjoyed several of Gabaldon's Outlander books as well.

message 45: by Ian (new)

Ian Wardell Leighton, is it the "the man who folded himself"?

message 46: by Leighton (new)

Leighton Edmondson yes, that is the one
T.Y.

message 47: by Donna (new)

Donna Davis Last page: how are The Help and Jaws books about time travel? What about The Thornbirds? I am not removing them because it has been awhile since I read them, but I think they are more historical fiction than any kind of time travel.

message 48: by Jim (new)

Jim remember when quint sees the size of the shark and says "we're gonna need a bigger tardis."

message 49: by Mitchell (new)

Mitchell There are a lot of non time travel books on this list, especially on the last page or two. It seems like a couple of voters were completely up a tree. I'm thinking it is time to start removing the most obvious of these - especially the ones in which the particular librarian is completely familiar.

message 50: by Gracie (new)

Gracie Ubik wrote: "Why isnt Time and Again #1???!!!!?!?!"

:-) I agree!!! My favorite. I have another one that is just almost that good it is deBorah Truscott " Out of Time".
Really good and she has one more with another in progress
