message 1: by Qiana (new)

Qiana Whitted I haven't read very many of these, but I probably should!

message 2: by Wilhelmina (new)

Wilhelmina Jenkins OK, so I'm a bit of a Pelecanos fan, but he gets DC, MY DC, so correctly that I read everything he puts out!

message 3: by jo (new)

jo who's leon dash?

message 4: by Wilhelmina (new)

Wilhelmina Jenkins Qiana voted for "Rosa Lee", a book I bought for my social worker daughter. When I lived in DC, he did some great writing for the Washington Post.

message 5: by John (new)

John Burns Why do i feel like walter mosley belongs here?
Homicide is awesome. Pelecanos is good. Have a richard price book i'll read soon.

message 6: by Mohammed (last edited Sep 19, 2009 03:26AM) (new)

Mohammed Pelecanos is the best writer of these that i have read. His works is more like The Wire than Lehane works for example.

I really like Derek Strange and his series. Full of likeable and real characters.

The only minus of The Wire is that you dont see much of the cops home life and they are too depressing when you see their ruined private life.

message 7: by Doug (new)

Doug Can anybody tell me why Ian Rankin is here?
I love the guy but Edinburgh is a long, long way from Baltimore.

message 8: by Toby (new)

Toby OK removed Ian Rankin as I couldn't find any reference to him writing for The Wire anywhere.

message 9: by (Sam) Jolyon (new)

(Sam) Jolyon Neither Leon Dash nor Leonard Pitts, Jr. ever wrote for the Wire, but I can appreciate that they're on the list, too.
