This is a running list of my favorite early modern dramas. Notice they're all English--if you are familiar with dramas of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries from the Continent and around the world, please add 'em!

Joseph Uh... Modern drama is typically defined as Ibsen onward.

message 2: by Ricki (new)

Ricki Yes, Ibsen on is Modern Drama. This would be mainly Elizabethan.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Hence "Early Modern" in the title, I would assume.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Removed for being too modern:

Waiting for Godot, by Samuel Beckett
Oscar et le Dame Rose, by Eric Emmanuel Schmitt
Golden Joe: Theatre, by Eric Emmanuel Schmitt
Schmitt Plays: One, by Eric Emmanuel Schmitt
Molloy, Malone Dies, The Unnameable, by Samuel Beckett

message 5: by Paula (new)

Paula agreed. These don't qualify as modern or 'early modern.' Most of what I see listed here are Renaissance or Restoration.

BookLovingLady I think most of the Dutch/Flemish ones I know are earlier than the sixteenth and seventeenth century... But I've added Marieken van Nieumegen, as it is 16th century, if I remember correctly. G.A. Bredero was a 17th century playwright, so I've added a collection of his plays (Toneelspelen). Also, Warenar by P.C. Hooft is 17th century.
