Arquebus on the cover

Okay, any kind of really old-fashioned gun, since I think some of them are matchlocks or other types of gun I'm unfamiliar with.

But my, it's a popular cover type, the close-up of some antique firing mechanism ...

And here's an odd thing: why do they all point to the right?

(NB: Please do not add covers with Winchesters, Colts, or other postindustrial firearms. I'm trying to stick to a handcrafted, pirate-highwayman antique ethos here.)
