2020: What Women Born In The 1970s Read In 2020
THIS LIST HAS OFFICIALLY CLOSED (do not vote here thank you). It was a record of what our special group of women born between 1 January 1970 through until December 31 1979 had read in 2020 and VOTES ARE NO LONGER COUNTED HERE.
This list is run annually, and this was our ninth year.
2020 List Results:
* 698 voters, who knows how many real members as a large number were false.
* 6530 different books recorded as being read
* 183 likes
The highly disputed top read books were as follows:
1. 'Where the Crawdads Sing' by Delia Owens with 142 recorded readers (at least 20 were untrue, I gave up counting on page 4 of the 10 pages of votes)
2. 'The Dutch House' by Ann Patchett with 136 recorded readers. This may have actually been the top read book by our legitimate members (as the top one is bogus) but I gave up counting votes.
3. 'Such a Fun Age' by Kiley Reid with 110 recorded readers (real maybe, maybe not)
4. 'The Giver of Stars' by Jojo Moyes with 104 recorded readers (real maybe, maybe not)
5. 'The Silent Patient' by Alex Michaelides with 101 recorded readers (real maybe, maybe not)
'Where the Crawdads Sing' by Delia Owens was also voted in at number 1 in 2019, but now I'm suspicious about when these were read too, so don't think it is amazing or anything, it probably isn't. Not the author's fault I'm sure, just spamming gone wild. See my last comment in the comments section for details.
The 2020 list officially closed on the 7th of January 2021. No further votes will be counted so please do not place any thank you.

I have acquired quite a few over Christmas thanks to recommendations and Amazon UK first reads giving us 2 free books instead of 1 for January.
Need to set my book challenge number and aiming to get through some of my want to read list on here.

Thanks Susanna :-D
And Welcome ladies! :-D

Great idea! Unfortunately I must read what I have in my collection of books yet to read. Admittedly, it is a very large pile of books yet to read (or very large stacks of books to be more exact), but I'm not purchasing anything new for myself. *If* I get sent something new I'm wanting to read via Bookcrossing.com however, it will probably get first choice...hmm...maybe I *should* be writing a reading journal...

Much appreciated. All that I ask is that no-one touches my 'front page' message. I do go in and do editing for duplicates as well but I leave spam removal to official librarians (since I'm not one).

So do I, it's the only time I have read a reasonable number of the top 100 and when I say reasonable it's never more than 10!

So do I, it's the only time I have read a reasonable number of..."
Me too!

I'm wary as well. I've unfortunately read too many 'not great' ones. Now I just go by what sounds good (or, as is starting to happen now, I'm completing my 'Want to Read' list based on my year of taking part in Wishlist tagging on www.bookcrossing.com . I do have to stop that for a while though - trying to read 'The Game of Thrones' this year, and, horribly, I've just found out I have $6000 of dental work to be done. The purchasing of books has to suffer for a bit...)

Also, while I understand the votes, I don't know where the score comes from?

Now, the score... I think it's based on how many people have read it AND where they ranked it. So if a book has been read by 4 people, but it was ranked 10th on someone's list and 20th on another person's list, then it will have a lower score than a book read by 4 people who ranked it higher on their individual lists. Does that make sense? I feel like I'm not explaining it well! :)

As for automatically combining titles on lists: it's supposed to, but often doesn't. Librarians have a function to "combine duplicates," which gets most of them, but sometimes that breaks down (usually on large lists).

As for the combining - sometimes the list is automatic, but sometimes it is not. However, every time I log in, I come on here and combine the duplicates. You never need to fear if your book is already on the list or not, just click on the Tab 'Add books to this list' and add the book you've just read. THAT IS THE WAY I PREFER YOU TO 'VOTE' as listed in Message number 1.
I hope that helps and thanks Laila & Susanna!

I'm not a librarian but I do it as the list owner. I enjoy doing it as its the only one I get to do :D

You can rank them but you don’t have to. I rearrange my list as the year goes on and I find more five-star books. I don’t know that it really makes much difference in their placement on the big list though! If you want to change the ranking in your list just change the number in the box by the title.

I know you're not. I am LOL

You don't have to do it, but it can make a difference (even if a slight one) to where a book sits on a list (because of your number 1 book being worth 100pts and your number 100 book being worth 1pt). The choice over your own placement within your own list is yours. All I'm adamant on is that you have read the book and you've read it in 2020 and not any other year.

I usually have very few on the first page so I am surprised that I have currently read 15 and 17 are on my to read list.

Just remember folks - always check the number of people who have read a book (by clicking on it) to make sure it is a legitimately read book during 2020. Spam is a stupid thing we've had to put up with over the last couple of years and I wouldn't want you to read something that really hasn't been read by members of this list. We have some lovely people who do Spam-watch but I wouldn't want anyone to get caught.

Anyone can add books to this list.
DOs:
DO add the books you've read in 2020 if you are a woman born in the 1970s.
DO invite your female friends born in the same decade (1970s) to join in with us.
DO take part in the conversations we will have.
DON'Ts:
DON'T vote in this list if you are not a woman born in the 1970s. I shouldn't have to state this, but we do get numskulls who can't read voting in this list when they're not in our criteria range - go haunt or self-promote in another list - there are plenty of them.
DON'T self-promote or get friends/fans/publishing/marketing people or spammers to promote a book here. That's not what this list is about and we get angry and vocal about it if you do. It's a sure-fire way to NOT get read by the legitimate users of this list.
DON'T skim the list and just 'vote' - please add in the book editions you've read in 2020 by clicking 'Add Books To This List' and adding from your books read. That way we also get to see the popular-read edition of a book title. Don't panic that in 'adding' a book you create duplicates because we regularly go through the list to amalgamate all the editions. It's easy for us, just a click of a button does it.
And a gentle reminder (for those that might have forgotten): To 'bookmark' this list at the start of the year, add the book you are currently reading that you will finish first in 2020 as your first book. All you have to do is make sure that this is the one you are going to finish first. DON'T add any others until they've been read.
OK - there are the rules. I'll add to them if I need to, but here you go, this is the list for 2020. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
