Ed I hope this isn't true, and that it is indeed eligible for the Caldecott, but I believe that Planting Stories: The Life of Librarian and Storyteller Pura Belpré is not eligible due to its illustrator being from Columbia and still living there according to her publisher (https://www.harpercollins.com/author/...). This makes me sad, as this is an amazingly beautiful book, with the best end papers I have seen in while. I loved this book, but I don't think it is eligible for Caldecott consideration.

Ed When Sadness Is at Your Door is also ineligible for the Caldecott Award due to the Illustrator being Dutch and living in England (From author/illustrator Eva Eland's own webpage - https://evaeland.com/about-2/)

That stinks big time. It is a spectacular book.

message 4: by Jess (new)

Jess Removed Little Brown from the list - it was published in 2018.

Ed Another ineligible book has made the list. The Unbudgeable Curmudgeon is illustrated by Fiona Woodcock who was born and raised in Leicester, England, and currently resides in London (Goodreads - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... & website http://www.fionawoodcock.com/about/). I liked the book and found it cleverly creative, but unfortunately, it isn't eligible for the Caldecott.

Ed Lubna and Pebble is also not eligible for the Caldecott. A very charming book, but the illustrator Daniel Egneus is not eligible according to his website : (http://danielegneus.com/about-daniel/) "Born in 1972 in Sweden, Daniel has spent the last 20 years in Prague, London, Berlin, Bologna, Rome, Milano and has now made Athens, Greece his base."

Oh that is disappointing.. I loved that book.

Ed I believe Turtle and Tortoise Are Not Friends is not eligible for the Caldecott. The illustrator Ashley Spires lives in Vancouver, Canada, and according to her biography has lived her whole life in Canada (https://www.kidscanpress.com/creators...).

Casey Had to add Stargazing by Jen Wang. So lovely, timely, and emotive. I loved The Prince and the Dressmaker and am so happy that it received two Eisners. Stargazing is just as good if not even better, her art style continues to evolve in wonderful ways. If you haven't read it yet I highly recommend it!
