I would if I knew any, I don't think I've ever read any Southern Slavic authors. Just pointed out the obvious.

Well, it may be obvious but if none of us knows any of these authors we cannot recommend them for "Crash" Course. Isn't this obvious ?

No, it isn't :). You'd think people who were interested in Slavic lit wouldn't want to limit themselves to the north. Hopefully my comment will prompt someone to add Southern authors. No need to take it as criticism.

message 6: by Yoanna (new)

Yoanna Lucky Teapot: I didn't take it as a criticism:) On the contrary, I admit you have a point there. Just a little provocation:) Let me know if you find something interesting from South. Good luck.

message 7: by Michael (new)

Michael I took over, guys. Now there's a few southeastern ones.

message 8: by Denis (new)

Denis Basic Ivo Andric, Mesa Selimovic, Dervis Susic, Radoje Domanovic, Milos Crnjanski, Danilo Kis, Miljenko Jergovic, Miroslav Krleza, Ranko Marinkovic, August Senoa.....

message 9: by Yoanna (new)

Yoanna Just wondering: Lolita is considered one of the finest works of English language literature, can we really consider it 'Slavic' based on the author's birth place?

message 10: by Anna (last edited Apr 21, 2014 10:54AM) (new)

Anna Kļaviņa *looks at the tags* Czech, Russian, Polish? *goes to add the rest*

eta: I got bored and didn't add all slavs.

message 11: by Yoana (new)

Yoana How are Kafka's works Slavic? He was born in Prague but he was Jewish and wrote in German and as far as I know, his writing doesn't owe any particularities to Slavic literary tradition, AND Prague was at the time in the Austro-Hungarian empire.

message 12: by TamaR (new)

TamaR I second Yoana

message 13: by Yoana (new)

Yoana I added some South Slavic (Bulgarian) books.

Those who consider Lolita a fine work, consider Donald trump a fine president

Those who think Lolita is pro-pedophilia can't read

message 16: by Felix (new)

Felix Prus's Lalka (The Doll) is listed twice, once in Czech.

message 17: by Scott (new)

Scott Tyler How about the Bulgarian author, Gospodinov Georgi who wrote The Physics of Sorrow

message 18: by Katya (new)

Katya Tsymbal More like a "Crash Course in russian Literature" or "How to Become an Imperialist/Terrorist"

message 19: by Katya (new)

Katya Tsymbal It's unbelievable how disproportionate and imperialistic this list is

message 20: by Jack (new)

Jack Burton There's really nothing Slavic about Conrad's literature.
