Andrew Obrigewitsch Really On Basilisk Station above the Forever War?

Mike (the Paladin) Does anyone here feel as angry as I do that the chosen cover here on GR for Starship Troopers is the one with an illustration from that excrescence of a movie by the same name???? I mean it's not a movie of the book. I love the book, one of my earliest favorite science fiction reads! That movie should be wiped from the pages of reality...not put on the cover of the book!

Mike (the Paladin) You know I love Heinlein's Tunnel in the Sky...but it's not military science fiction.

Richard Irwin Someone might want to update the list-there are several listed twice, & some that aren't really military sci fi (see msg 3 above for an example). Also, why no Lensman series books? Definitely military sci fi, even if an earlier era!

Mike (the Paladin) That's the way all these listopia lists end up.

Richard Irwin Thanks, Mike.

Mike (the Paladin) Yeah. I come to them for suggestions now and then, but pretty much stopped trying to vote or post... Life.

message 8: by Sam (new)

Sam Detente More people thought other books ranked higher, just the democratic process of the system. FWIW, you can pretty much pick up any of the books on the le list and still get a good read.

ClockworkLasersword You guys should really check out the space marine books by Keith Douglas, it's a trilogy of trilogies and it just gets better and better.
It's got politics, relatively realistic science, old and new aliens, exploration of AI, depictions of a future Earth, and lots and lots of fighting!
It spans a few generations to keep things interesting, and has a few different main themes that all get expanded upon too.

Lobstergirl Eliminating the duplicates is easy - any librarian can do it. I just eliminated 20. You can always ask in the librarian group for someone to do it. You can also ask there if specific books need to be removed that don't fit the list criteria.

writegeist Have you tried Linda Nagata's The Red trilogy? Pretty amazing near future warfare.

message 12: by Dennis (new)

Dennis I read a wonderful military sci-FI novel, but only remember the plot, not the title or author. Any know of a novel about war which has been privatized by global corporate conglomerates, who have their own mercenary armies and negotiate rules of combat to minimize cost of conflict. Such as simulated death (like paintball), so victory is often dependent on who negotiates rules of engagement which favors their makeup. Some very clever hand to hand combat scenes. I,d love to find and re- read this book
