Yuki Hello Booklovinglady . I didn't see your top comment until after i deleted then reposted my comment. Sorry.

Booklovinglady wrote: Three out of the four voters have only voted for this one title, so based on that I'd normally tend to agree with you. But the fourth voter has voted for more than just this one book...."

The forth voter is the Author of the book and has voted for their own self written books.

Booklovinglady wrote: (Sigh....) If you are so sure and feel so strongly about it, ..."

i'll delete book then if no one minds.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Interesting; I didn't believe authors could vote for their own books on a Listopia anymore. (Perhaps it's just that they can't *add* them anymore?)

Anyway, that looks like an author ring pushing each other's books.

I don't mind if you delete it. I can't understand why they still spam booklists, since it only annoys people and make you less inclined to read the novel. And spamming aren't very subtle... I mean, if a novel has 60 ratings, but 10 persons have voted for it...

Other novels on the top 100 who may be spam:
# 46 "The Rasping of Gilman" by J. Michael Milligan have one vote, by someone who only voted for 1 novel.... on A LOT of lists. And the name of the voter is J. Milligan. Hm? (But to be honest, he propably read it this year, since it's publication date is January 10th)

message 26: by J_BlueFlower (new)

J_BlueFlower Maybe 1984 will make it to the top 100 of the list? Local news said sales were 9500% up.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads It's in the top 5 of the over 35's list, I believe.

I believe sales are up; it's in the top 5 in ebook sales at Amazon.

It has been on my shelves for quite a while, but as I'm participating in the Winter 2016-2017 challenge of the Netherlands & Flanders group, I picked up the book today.

So rest assured, it will have another vote soon :-)

Megan Are we suspicious of that Seraph book that appeared at #3? All the votes are 1 of 1, there are only 16 total reviews and 11 votes, and they are *all* five stars. The dates read are legit though. Really wish people would grasp the idea of these lists instead of just spamming one book with votes.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads My first guess was an author ring, but I think this is a group of devoted fangirls voting this author's books up a variety of lists.

ETA: They do, however, seem to legitimately be reading that this year.

But you weren't the only one whose spidey senses were tingling.

message 33: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin H Based on the stats for those 12 voters, though, it looks like only four of those votes are actually legit (or as legit as a spam ring can be)--some of the 12 voters haven't even read a book at all this year, including Seraph, and others, including some of the 4 "legitimate" votes, have read other books in 2017 that they haven't added to the list at all.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads What makes me reluctant to remove it is that some of them do seem to have legitimately read it this year.

message 35: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin H Some of them have, yes. Can we remove the votes of those who appear to have not?

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Unfortunately, no. You can either remove all votes for a book, or not remove any - there's no in between.

Yeah, considering it's not out until July and most of the reviewers have zero friends....... And a good number of them (I didn't check all) are brand new members, joined in 2017. All of their photos look like stock photos, so I feel like they're trolls trying to disguise themselves as actual people. Come on, people, knock it off!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads The book hasn't been published yet!

The only credible explanation is that several people who got and read ARCs did so this year and then voted here. (Which is what it looks like happened, at least in part.)

Megan The Bear and the Nightingale is out (#25 on the list currently), and I would really love to see it break into the top 5! It was FANTASTIC. I read it weeks ago and I'm still thinking about it. Just a little plug for a great book ;)

Karen Lee (Hawkes) Vivian Amberville - The Weaver of Odds at 50, voted by a reader named Vivian and has the cover as their profile picture and an another reader whose only friend is the author... :'D

Kind of takes all the fun out of these lists. Which books are actual real reads?

I'm so annoyed by this that I've created a shelf called "Spam", which gives me a passive-aggressive outlet for my annoyance. I just add all spam novels from this list (and others) and then they have a spam mark when I scroll through the list.

message 43: by Shannon (new)

Shannon I feel like 40% of the Top 10 is spam. Which happens at the beginning of every year. I really hope one year everyone can just play fair.

Megan Where did this Vicious book come from at #1? It's been there for weeks, but most of the votes look like spammers with some real ones mixed in. Am I the only person on the planet who's never heard of it before?

I'm looking forward to it getting kicked out of the top five...hopefully soon...

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Does not appear to be an author ring. Many of the voters seem to have private profiles, so hard to say for sure - that can be just "I'm under 18," can be "I like my privacy," or it can be "I'm a spammer."

My private suspicion is a pack of fangirls, but like I said, hard to say for sure.

The book was published in the last days of December 2016 and it has over 10k ratings. I would say that means people have heard about it, don't you think? :) I've never heard abut the most of the books in top 100 but that doesn't mean I automatically presume the same about other voters.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Yeah, the current #4 is making my spidey senses tingle, but that's because 30 shelvings, 13 votes is more than a little suspect.

The only reason I make that assumption is because most of the voters have voted it 1 of 1 but have thousands of books on their shelves and/or no friends (or who have no friends and no books). It's suspicious. I'm also not seeing it talked about *anywhere* else, when usually the books that show up in the top five is all over my book feeds. I have never seen or heard of it before, and combined with the info available for the voters, that makes it look suspect to me.

Yep, that one's been on my "spammers" list for a while.
