What We've Read So Far in 2017
*Please only add books that you HAVE read in 2017*
For the books you've read in 2016, visit the 2016 list!
Just keep voting for books as you read them. Which book will we read the most this year? And for all you lucky people who read more than 100 books in a year, this will become your 100 favourite reads of 2017 list as you delete your least fave's as you go past 100.
FYI: This is the 8th year I've put this list together. Last year’s list generated almost 8,000 books with nearly 1,000 voters. The top 5 reads for 2016 were #1 Me Before You, #2 The Girl On The Train, #3, Winter, Cinder at #4, and The Martian at #5. Most of these being hit movies for the year.
Cheers everyone!

*I added another 5 to the top to try and see beyond the much discussed spam books.

9# the sun - This Book is Spam. All the votes on it are Spam votes.

Booklovinglady wrote: Three out of the four voters have only voted for this one title, so based on that I'd normally tend to agree with you. But the fourth voter has voted for more than just this one book...."
The forth voter is the Author of the book and has voted for their own self written books.
Booklovinglady wrote: (Sigh....) If you are so sure and feel so strongly about it, ..."
i'll delete book then if no one minds.

Anyway, that looks like an author ring pushing each other's books.

I don't mind if you delete it. I can't understand why they still spam booklists, since it only annoys people and make you less inclined to read the novel. And spamming aren't very subtle... I mean, if a novel has 60 ratings, but 10 persons have voted for it...
Other novels on the top 100 who may be spam:
# 46 "The Rasping of Gilman" by J. Michael Milligan have one vote, by someone who only voted for 1 novel.... on A LOT of lists. And the name of the voter is J. Milligan. Hm? (But to be honest, he propably read it this year, since it's publication date is January 10th)

I believe sales are up; it's in the top 5 in ebook sales at Amazon.

no 1: 1984
no 4: The Handmaid's Tale
no 8:The Man in the High Castle (alternative history, Japan and Germany winning WWII)
no 14: The Plot Against America
no 25; Animal Farm

It has been on my shelves for quite a while, but as I'm participating in the Winter 2016-2017 challenge of the Netherlands & Flanders group, I picked up the book today.
So rest assured, it will have another vote soon :-)

ETA: They do, however, seem to legitimately be reading that this year.
But you weren't the only one whose spidey senses were tingling.

Yeah, considering it's not out until July and most of the reviewers have zero friends....... And a good number of them (I didn't check all) are brand new members, joined in 2017. All of their photos look like stock photos, so I feel like they're trolls trying to disguise themselves as actual people. Come on, people, knock it off!

The only credible explanation is that several people who got and read ARCs did so this year and then voted here. (Which is what it looks like happened, at least in part.)

Kind of takes all the fun out of these lists. Which books are actual real reads?

..."
I'm so annoyed by this that I've created a shelf called "Spam", which gives me a passive-aggressive outlet for my annoyance. I just add all spam novels from this list (and others) and then they have a spam mark when I scroll through the list.

I'm looking forward to it getting kicked out of the top five...hopefully soon...

My private suspicion is a pack of fangirls, but like I said, hard to say for sure.

The book was published in the last days of December 2016 and it has over 10k ratings. I would say that means people have heard about it, don't you think? :) I've never heard abut the most of the books in top 100 but that doesn't mean I automatically presume the same about other voters.

The only reason I make that assumption is because most of the voters have voted it 1 of 1 but have thousands of books on their shelves and/or no friends (or who have no friends and no books). It's suspicious. I'm also not seeing it talked about *anywhere* else, when usually the books that show up in the top five is all over my book feeds. I have never seen or heard of it before, and combined with the info available for the voters, that makes it look suspect to me.
