4 Chetan Bhaghats in the top 10......ranked above Salman Rushdie!! I sincerely wish those numbers do not denote rankings......

message 10: by Chitralekha (new)

Chitralekha Paul I don't think this list has got anything to do with the ranking or quality of books. At the most it just gives an option to the readers to choose a book written by debut Indian authors.Since most of the publishers do not promote books written by newbies their work don't even stand a chance to be noticed or evaluated. So readers be aware! You have to choose a book at your own risk and don't rely on the ranking which has no value at all.

Yeah.. really dumb list.. If anyone goes by this list and buy the top books they will get a really bad opinion of Indian literature...

message 14: by Kriti (new)

Kriti How did non Indian books get here? For eg Harry Potter at 106, Hunger Games at 111, Percy jackson at 162 and Steve Jobs at 170. I don't hate those books. I love them but them being on this list doesn't make sense. There might be more such books that don't belong in this list
.

message 15: by Kriti (new)

Kriti Crooked wrote: "And please add only books set in India or books by Indian authors to the list."

Looks like some people forgot to take that point into consideration.

message 16: by Bhavna (new)

Bhavna Rating is haphazard...many of the best Indian writers ( Rushdie, Murthy, ruskin bond, Premchand) are Ignored...And 2 states on top???? Above The God of Small things of Interpreter of Maladies;

Talex Although the list doesn't hold much credibility, it is definitely a great opportunity to know the young indian authors and who are doing good.

message 20: by Jack (new)

Jack Hi everyone,

I have created a new group called Goodreads All Sorts and I'd love for people to join it or just even just give it a look. It's a group that discusses anything and everything. There will be monthly group reads, movies, and music. There is a folder for everything you could think of. I'd really like if people could spread the word because I'd love for the group to be a success. Here is the link to the group:

http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/9...

Thanks very much,
Jack :-)

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) Arushi wrote: "Why is a Twilight book on this list?"

You mean, other than the fact that they show up randomly on all sorts of lists, including plenty of lists they have absolutely no business of being on? :)

Themis-Athena, I wish that there was some control that banned these books from lists with tags other than "vapid", "abusive" and "never-read".

message 42: by Neha (new)

Neha Ram I don't think Chetan Bhagat's Two States is fiction.

message 43: by Richard (new)

Richard Macbeth, Unbroken, Sense and Sensibility, and The Great Gatsby should not really be on this list.

message 44: by Booklovinglady (last edited Feb 20, 2017 07:13AM) (new)

Booklovinglady Monica Ali (Brick Lane, #110) is Bangladeshi, not Indian, nor is her book set in India. It should really be removed...

message 45: by Booklovinglady (last edited Feb 20, 2017 07:25AM) (new)

Booklovinglady It seems a few of the titles I added previously have been deleted, while they were all fiction and all by Indian authors. Whoever deleted them, didn't mention deleting them (as they should have done, really).

As a librarian myself, I really would like to see a message in a comment box by whoever is deleting books, to indicate which books have been deleted.... Just common courtesy.

message 46: by Fatima (new)

Fatima Could a librarian delete #598 Deception Point by Dan Brown? It's neither set in India nor written by an Indian author.

message 47: by Booklovinglady (last edited Apr 04, 2017 08:54PM) (new)

Done. I came across another Dan Brown one, Angels & Demons, that didn't sound like it was set in India and have removed that one too.

message 48: by Michael (new)

Michael Korleone Removed 14 duplicates as well as Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Love the graphic novel but it doesn't fit the list rules
