Jack Wallen is what happens when a Gen Xer mind-melds with present day snark. Jack is a seeker of truth and a writer of words with a quantum mechanical pencil and a disjointed beat of sound and soul. Although he resides in the unlikely city of Louisville, Kentucky, Jack likes to think of himself more as an interplanetary traveler, on the lookout for the Satellite of Love and a perpetual movie sign...or so he tells the reflection in the mirror (some times in 3rd person). Jack is the author of numerous tales of dark, twisty fiction including the I Zombie series, the Klockwerk Movement, the Fringe Killer series, Shero, The Nameless Saga, and much more.

What I believe happens is that a author will venture outside of their voice or attempt to force a story in an unnatural direction (given the constraints created by the author), which will lead the writer to struggle. It's only when the writer returns to their own voice or returns the story to a more logical arc, that they get beyond what many would consider "writer's block".(less)

The five year plan should center around book releases and getting your back catalog built up with solid work (all the while, stretching and honing your skills in every way possible). The ten year plan should center around rising above the chaff and building what many would call your "brand".

All of that to say, do not expect anything to happen overnight. Being an author is a life-time commitment that requires a never-ending dedication to making sure the book you are writing now is better than the book you previously wrote. Always, always, always find new ways to improve your skills, your method, your words, your voice...everything. (less)

Good morning, sadness

I woke this morning. That’s where the story could very easily end. I woke up. Huzzah. Accomplishment number one of the day. But sometimes, waking isn’t just an act of opening your eyes and rolling out of bed. Sometimes, waking requires intention, courage, and strength. The are mornings when I just want to remain in […]
