Not all comic books are for kids. In 2014, writer Matt Fraction teamed up with artist Chip Zdarsky to create Sex Criminals, a comic that's as brazen and bawdy as its title suggests. The story is very "boy meets girl," except here the boy and the girl in question discover they can freeze time whenever they have sex. Soon enough, they're robbing banks—as you do when you're a fun-loving couple with a secret sex weapon. While the zany and frequently explicit story might not be for everyone, Time magazine hailed it the best comic of 2013, and in 2014, it picked up both an Eisner and a Harvey award for best new series. In Fraction and Zdarsky's newest installment, Sex Criminals, Vol. 3: Three the Hard Way, the time-freezing couple face an intimidating enemy, one intent on regulating when they have sex. (Villains who want world domination are so last century.) Fraction shares his favorite books that put a new twist on lovemaking.

"While The Fermata might be our kissing cousin, I'd like to think we have a closer connection to Baker's Vox, which begins as a transcript of a phone sex session and ends as a document of a genuine human connection…steeped in sex."

"Is this about sex? Is it about war? There's masturbation, the Industrial Age, the end of the world, V2 trajectories, the Blitz, magic, quantum mechanics, everything, nothing…? Sure."

"The surprise is how compulsively readable Erika Moen's wonderful tour of the wonderful world of wonderful toys is—she's like a naughty Leonard Maltin set loose in an adults-only episode of 'Jackass.' Sex positive AND comics positive. My two favorites."

"Nobody in comics has come near this book for its progressive politics, prescient predictions, or portrayals of complicated, messy, and hot sex. There's not a lot of love, but, like life, there's always consequences."

"Dare you 'enter' the Tingleverse? Well? DARE YOU? The only surprising thing about the 'body' of Chuck Tingle's 'work' is how much you'll want to keep reading it even after you've 'read,' like, two or three times already that day. Just want to read it all over my damn face."

David There was an Omni magazine short story years ago with the same basic premise- time stops for a couple whenever they have sex.

Eric Mesa I'll read any comic Fraction pens. Even the non-dirty ones. His run on Hawkeye was priceless.

I agree - Matt Fraction is a very talented and good writer. I greatly enjoyed much of his Marvel work, Hawkeye and Iron First were magnificent, and I have a real soft spot for his Iron Man run which I ground out an amazing deal on both ombinuses at a con once. My god I can remember liking his Punisher War Journal before I even knew who he was, and his name stuck in my head!

He's only going on to strength to strength! Sex Criminals is an amazing book.
