Better than average YA fairy tale retelling. But not exactly the second coming that some people seem to make it out to be.
The reviews are a little hilarious. I'm a little confused also at the antipathy some people have to the mixed names - emigration is nothing new, I'm a kiwi who lives in Sweden, people have been living in places where their names stick out as foreign for centuries, I can't imagine that changes much a few hundred years into the future.

This book was far better than I anticipated. The audiobook ending snuck up on me and left me gasping because there was no more until I can get the 2nd book from the library tomorrow. I can see why there's such a fan following for this series. A lot of fan art has grown up from the series as well as a coloring book and a graphic novel.

"What are you reading?"
"Oh, it's a remix of Cinderella where she's a cyborg and there are people living on the moon who can control your thoughts."
"...Where do you find this stuff??"
(Actual conversation with fiance :))
I liked this quite a lot overall. Automatic points for there being robotics and psychic shenanigans and body image/beauty issues involved.
And I liked the heroine. She was independent and competent and had interests and talents and a personality and everything, and, unlike everyone ...more

“Kai cleared his throat. Stood straighter. "I assume you are going to the ball?"
"I-I don't know. I mean, no. No, I'm sorry, I'm not going to the ball."
Kai drew back, confused. "Oh well... but... maybe you would change your mind? Because I am, you know."
"The prince."
"Not bragging," he said quickly. "Just a fact.”

This is not quite the Cinderella you're familiar with.
It seemed like a little while back everyone I knew was reading this book, and most of them loved it. So when faced with the re-tell ...more
I thoroughly enjoyed this cleverly put together, loosely based story of a cyborg Cinderella from Earth. It's sort of a Cinderella meets blade runner. Takes place in the future where there are androids, cyborgs and beings from the Moon called Lunars all mixed together with the nuts and bolts of the well known fairy tale. This is a great book for teens of any age as well as adults. Loved it, totally light and fun.
