A terrifying reimagining of the events that befell Donner party. Historical fiction/horror done right. I thoroughly enjoyed this tense, atmospheric novel. Knowing the history of the Donner party meant feeling in my bones the doom that stalked them, the inevitability of their fate, but in no way diminished the building tension or the fragile hope I held for certain characters. Really really liked this one! It was gross, terrifying, made me very uncomfortable at points. an excellent alternate history romp into both monsters and the monsters that are humans.
