Sigh. I suppose it is too late to not have read this on a vacation trip. Maybe I won't connect this book to that trip. This is an origin story of a bad guy. Really what should be expected. It was not really a bad book, but I did not enjoy it. I wish I had heard from someone not to read it and listened to them. Fantastic and compelling. I think for Collins to tell this from Snow’s perspective is brilliant. I wasn’t sure how believable this would be in terms of developing the character of Snow into someone capable of everything he does in THG. But Collins nails it. As a reader I felt I gained insight into Snow’s background and motivations. I was worried that I’d end up liking his character and feeling heartbroken when he “transformed,” but she laid his path so intricately and carefully and revealed his

Oh my goodness! Another amazing book by Suzanne Collins, master storyteller. She weaves just enough references to later Hunger Games with Katniss and Peeta to make you feel like you are watching the progression and a fascinating character in Snow! This version of the games so much more basic but equally deadly. I was impressed start to finish!
I love The Hunger Games books so very much and have read them many times. I was looking forward to this novel to help flesh out more of the history of the world of Panem and President Snow. And, while there were a few little peeks into that world and his psyche, it just wasn't enough. That said, I'm glad I read it but I won't read it again. The storytelling was poorly paced, the descriptions of events and places were sparse, the characters were one dimensional and the ending was forced. I'd say
