This book is fantastic. I'm still trying to grasp the ending though!

Well, I actually did enjoy this. It is of course weird and schizophrenically disorganized, as one can expect from PKD. Perhaps a novel isn't really his forte, but this was an interesting alternative history. I primary read it because I had decided to read the novel before watching the show on Amazon Prime. Don't think the TV show can be anything like this for many reasons...

As with much of PKD (but not all), it is a little dated 50 years after publication - indeed, as much older SF tends to be. It's nowhere near my favorite PKD, but was the first novel I read to do a treatment of the "Allies Lost" hypothetical. You are given a glimpse into the mindset of the time, from older racial slang to the idea of marijuana cigarettes and the "mystique" of the Orient.
Not a good first PKD, but one worth reading for those who like him. ...more
