Really enjoyed this book and was impressed at the creation of a unique world. I quite liked the main character Chris, whose wit and civility is easy to be charmed by.

The whole concept of a portion of society living a very different type of life (the comparison is made in the book to deaf culture, with those who are deaf, those who use a cochlear implant, and those who are hearing). In this book, there are the Hadens who live via "threeps" (robotic sensory input avatars) and those who spend time

I honestly can’t believe I actually finished this book. I never connected with any of the characters and found the plot to be boring. It was an easy and quick read (or I’d have never finished it) but something was missing for me. I tried....

It was a good political thriller, but that's not the same as a good sci-fi novel, and ends up more like one of the Dune sequels that we all have a vague feeling of regret about. Apparently there is a short story which I should have read first, which resides somewhere at t ...more

This was definitely not what I expected, but I found it to be quite enjoyable. I like the main character and the world that the author created was believable.

World wide virus, mind control, body swapping, robots controlled by thought, virtual worlds as realities. It all seems like a lot to throw into a book but Scalzi does it with skill in a natural-flowing, near future tale that's a bit murder-mystery, a bit crime-procedural. A fun read. Things got really dense/complicated/layered in the "explaining everything" section about 3/4s in, but all wrapped up neatly in the end. ...more
