My mom was giving me this whole speech the other day about my obsession with books, that I’m always in a room somewhere reading, that she sees so little of me during the day. That those books don’t really have a part in my future and that I might get social problems in the future.
And I was just standing there, trying to hide my stupid grin.

3.5 stars. I have a weird relationship with this book. First of all, I'll say that the hype definitely got to me. Hype from others as well as me hyping myself up. I was fully expecting it to be my new favorite book and was crushed when it wasn't. I tried reading it/listening to the audiobook shortly after it came out 7 years ago but ultimately DNF. I loved how quickly the story drew me in; it had me pulling an all nighter. This is ...more

I liked this book okay. I didn't like it how Ms. Rowell makes Harry Potter be a part of her books "universe." I was lead to believe that Simon Snow was just supposed to stand in for Harry Potter. There really isn't much to say, except that if you've ever written fan fiction. this one's for you. Not bad.
