Vacillating between 4 and 5 stars - but at least a 4.5 rating
I waited a long time to read this book, knowing that my in-person book club would spend at least an hour discussing it. And now happy I waited since there is so much to discuss.
Although I haven't read many of his books, all the Everett books I have read, I did enjoy. This was no exception. For those who recently read Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, this is the other side of the coin - this is Jim, the slave's story. I re ...more

“Belief has nothing to do with truth.”
This was a tough read, made even more difficult possibly by it being an audiobook. I liked the adventure and Jim's story but I found many parts really hard to stomach. I don't know the original story well so I didn't have a love or affection for Huck like I might have. The twist was something I didn't know ahead of time (not sure if it was in the original book) but I did find it good. ...more
