No fantasy book has ever made me think so hard about the real world. I’m blown away by M.L. Wang’s tale. It has themes of sexism, classism, racism, prejudice, and injustice.

Yes, it has magic (and it’s a phenomenally intricate math-and-science-based system, at that). However, I implore you to read this even if you wouldn’t normally read fantasy. I feel like this book has changed me. The ROLLERCOASTER of emotions that I went through…This book touches on so many experiences I have had and witnessed. I took this book so personal and could see the beauty within it. All the characters were engaging, the world building was immaculate. My poor heart 😂 I am changed. I will think of this book forever.

I am walking away from this book for several reasons. I am writing this on my phone, so typing it all out would be a bit of a chore at the moment, but if you look at any other one or two star reviews on here then you will see some, if not all, of my reasons for stepping away from this story 50% of the way in.

The beginning did grab me a bit, so I gave half a star more for that. Very disappointed.
