When I finished the first chapter of this book, I double checked the page length on my e-reader because I didn't see how what I read, although well-written and interesting, would blossom into a full book. Don't take this to mean that it was difficult to read beyond the beginning. It wasn't. I just didn't realize how what seemed to be a self-contained article could be the basis for 240 more pages.

Given my recent fascination with the Korean culture, I enjoyed this. But apart from being able to relate to the story because of that and because I also lost my "partner" mother in the last year, I just didn't love this the way I expected to. It was a thoughtful, painstaking memoir and I can tell MZ just needed to write it. I appreciated that about her story most because of this.

I like the dynamic between the feeling of guilt and the feeling of obligation that was the relationship between mother and daughter. It shined a light more into the reality of hospice care and having someone be with you until the end.
