DNF at 15%. I can see that tens of thousands of people made it to the end of this book but I couldn’t. The author’s books always start a little slow for me. If it was sci-fi/fantasy, it would be called world-building but it doesn’t work for me in historical fiction. There is a lot of naming things rather than giving clues so the reader realizes it on their own.
I appreciated this insight into a historical figure of a woman I had never heard of before - Belle da Costa Greene, nee Belle Marion Greener, the personal librarian of J.P. Morgan, who was in fact a Black woman passing as white. I didn't end up really connecting with this book, but it was certainly interesting to learn about her.

Fascinating Audiobook. I discovered so much. Amazing to think the ceilings she crushed making her way and the richness in manuscripts and art that she made sure to make available with the Morgan's to the general public.
