One Sad Star. The cover is beautiful, super intriguing synopsis, everyone was raving and I waited months for it but the narrators were poorly chosen and it came incredibly close to being a DNF. I only completed it to answer a couple of questions that arose while reading a few reviews.

This should have been amazing, but everything is so improbable, outlandish, unrealistic and unimaginative that I'm tempted to mark this as science-fiction and alternate reality.

I thought this was a beautiful, interwoven story of multiple generations and retelling the stories of women, even morally ambiguous ones. This story did a good job of exploring mixed feelings regarding relationships, we often look at divorce even when the spouse does something bad, as an easy choice. It’s rare that’s the truth, and the characters in this story discussed that leaving is optimal, but that there’s more too it. I appreciate the morality expressed by Nella despite being a murderer.

I've really come to love books about magic and potions during quarantine so this piqued my interest right from the beginning. This is a dual-timeline story that follows Nella and Eliza in the 1790s and Catherine in the present-day. Sometimes with dual timeline stories, I prefer 1 timeline over the other but with this story I couldn't get enough of either timeline.
