I originally picked this book up hesitant. I knew it a story about a woman in Afghanistan. I have heard stories of how woman are treated there and I was worried I would want to argue too much with the book to get through it.
Instead, it is a story about a woman. Well, more than one, but really a story about women.

See how quickly I read this? I could barely put it down...my heart kept breaking through the book. I tear up thinking about the lives of these women-their strength and bravery in daily life. The best book I've read in a long time.

Khaled Hosseini is an excellent story teller. The pictures he paints with his words are so vivid that everything from the joys of everyday life to the horrors of war leaves the reader nearly breathless. As with The Kite Runner, Hosseini's previous book, there are parts of A Thousand Splendid Suns that were hard to read because the details of the events were horrifying; none the less, the book left me with a full range of emotion and a sense of awe.
