Well color me completely surprised. I loved this one and mythology is not typically my cup of tea. I have tried to read quite a few but this one was finally the one for me to love.
Circe isn't your typical god - she spends her childhood at her father's feet, waiting for any moment he might bestow on her. She learns to listen and watch. She seems to have compasion, which is not necessarily a good trait of a god.

Actual rating: 3.5
A little slow, for a long while, but I certainly liked it overall. It definitely grew into itself as I read, and I realized that a lot of the things that frustrated me in the beginning/middle were just part of the set up for the overall arc of Circe (the book and the character). Lots of fun Greek mythology.

Read the book and loved it. I'd heard the audio version was amazing so when it went on sale I scooped it up. It was even better!!

I put off reading this book for a long time because I thought the cover was creepy. In reality, it was magical - beautifully written and carefully researched. It spurred a new interest in Greek mythology.
