This book was pleasantly full of overt and covert social and behavioral messages. Ove was so critical of the new days that you just wish you could go back and see how wonderful life was back in those days when people repaired their "things" instead of throwing them out. I could identify with Ove, even though he's from several generations before me. Also, as an Iranian, I related to Parvaneh a lot. She made the book even more enjoyable for me. ...more

A Man Called Ove burb on the back didn't make me want to read this novel. My daughter loved it and told me to read it. I found it difficult to get into the story at first; it seemed to confirm that Ove was a grumpy old man.
But I was won over bit by bit and then I couldn't put it down; I then devoured it and became a hugh Ove fan.
I cried at the end (as my daughter told me I would). I'm going to try more of Fredrik Backman stories.

I adored this book. Every bit of it. Ove was such a compelling character. He was as curmudgeon-y as they come, but there was such a layer of sadness and poignancy to him it was hard not to be drawn to him. Then, to come to the rescue of so many and seeing each person as a nuisance as he was doing it was so incredibly funny.
So glad I read this book.
