Original review. This is one of the best books I have read for quite a while. This new to me author, weaves a story of a older gentleman that is grieving the loss of his wife. In this grief, he finds a new purpose in life with the help of his new neighbor and many friends.
Although the book touches on difficult topics, such as grief and suicide, it is done in a touching and somewhat humorous manner.

a touching story of a grumpy widow who wants to join his wife in heaven. Unfortunately the people in the neighborhood won't leave him alone long enough to do it. I loved this story so much. Even shed tears in the last two chapters. A fantastic read, thank you #Fredrickbackman

This book was pleasantly full of overt and covert social and behavioral messages. Ove was so critical of the new days that you just wish you could go back and see how wonderful life was back in those days when people repaired their "things" instead of throwing them out. I could identify with Ove, even though he's from several generations before me. Also, as an Iranian, I related to Parvaneh a lot. She made the book even more enjoyable for me. ...more

Ove is a grumpy old man who, after the death of his wife, wants to end his life too. His grim attempts to kill himself are interrupted by new neighbours, idiots falling off of ladders, boys needing a place to crash and every day he has another day to live. Through the journey of the book we learn about Ove, his past, his love for Sonja (his wife), his love-hate relationship with his only friend, Rune and his pride and joy, his Saab. The book was a very easy read, yet it had a depth to the charac

A Man Called Ove burb on the back didn't make me want to read this novel. My daughter loved it and told me to read it. I found it difficult to get into the story at first; it seemed to confirm that Ove was a grumpy old man.
But I was won over bit by bit and then I couldn't put it down; I then devoured it and became a hugh Ove fan.
I cried at the end (as my daughter told me I would). I'm going to try more of Fredrik Backman stories.

Cute, entertaining character-read. I feel like Emily May's review says it all, so no need for redundant expounding. The only thing that tripped me up was his age - the author could have added 20 years to his age of 59 to make it more plausible (I know some pretty hardy 80-year-olds!)
