THIS is one of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century? Why? I guess I missed something. Holden Caulfield is just an unpleasant character, and nothing much ever happens in the book. I found it a chore to get through until right towards the end. I liked Holden's little sister and how much he cared for her.

The story of Holden Caufield's weekend in New York after he is kicked out of boarding school again. Holden spends his time randomly roaming around as far as I could tell. I had heard that this was an amazing, can't miss, gotta read book. So i checked it out of the library. And i tried to like it, i really did. But all the main character does is brood and swear. That's it. I tried to slog my way through this. This was completely boring, and i am so glad i did not buy it and waste my money. I only got about 40 pages into it, and the only thing that kept me from throwing this across the room was the fact that it was a library book and therefore not mine.

Gave me a absolute headache. Maybe I would have appreciated this book more as a teen, but as a mom of teens, I just wanted to smack him. Sorry to offend anyone who enjoyed it.
Loved this book in college when I was about 20 so I wanted to read it again. At first I wasn't sure I was going to like it this time, but I got more into it as I went along. Insightful, amusing & sad at the same time.

I read this book in high school and I didn't like it. Maybe I would like it better now?
