This was my least favorite of the three books in this series, but I still enjoyed the author's writing style and fantastical worlds. This book isn't quite creepily dark as the previous two books, but the candy-coated world featured here still has its moments. There's relatively positive discussion of body image and weight with one of the protagonists (occasionally to the point of it feeling like a single-issue defining characteristic) that was overall nice to see in a story like this one.

There is kindness in the world, if we know how to look for it. If we never start denying it the door.

Rini lands in a pond behind Home for Wayward Children. She comes from the Land of Confection. She finds out that her mother Sumi died in this land before she was conceived. That is why she is starting to disappear. She must race to undo her mother's death so she can exist. This was such a fun episode in this series. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Wait a minute I thought there wasn’t supposed to be any quests- wasn’t that part of the rules they told Nancy in book 1. Speaking of Nancy I loved seeing her again, especially in the element of her world. Love this series so much.
