If you loved the first book, feel free to skip this one. You are not missing anything, I promise. I read this book despite all the negative reviews and all of them are dead on accurate.
The first half of the book is one giant info dump of things that happened after Wade won the contest ("And then this happened...and then that happened...and so then we did this...and then we did that..."). Then another quest with tons of '80s trivia that I don't give a shit about, and somehow this is no longer cha ...more

Ready Player Two is the best book I've read in a few months, but it has a lousy ending. Even if I ignore the last few chapters, the plot point of AI taking humanity hostage (which was over-the-top enough to crash my suspension of disbelief) and the sprinkles of Woke preachiness throughout the book were just enough to prevent me from giving it 5/5 stars.

Review: Wade and the rest of the gang survived the first book and are now rich and powerful. But Halliday was not done. He hid something wonderous in his vault that is a headset that will change the world. It enables full virtual reality, taste, sight, hearing etc. Wade screws up his love life with Samantha then throws himself basically into exile and into Oasis game. Addicted more than ever to it. He has a new quest and of course new dangers.

Yikes.
I should have listened to the plethora of negative reviews for this book but I just had to find out for myself. This sequel was not needed and it was a huge mistake. The character of the MC, Wade, is completely destroyed. The first third of the book is literally just Wade being a generally terrible person living the life of luxury while the rest of the world suffers. He of course thinks he is terribly hard done by because his short relationship has fallen apart.

DNF. I just couldn't do it. I loved the first one. Recommended it to everyone in fact. I picked this one up from the library, all ready to go, and then made the mistake of reading the reviews. Dumb on my part, I know better. But here's where the problem hits, there wasn't a single good one. And rather than ruin my love of the first one, I just decided to skip this one. Sorry...I fully intend to take a good stab at it at some later date.

So the first 20% of this book was spent recalling events that happened between the last book and this one, in a very "tell don't show" kind of way. And it's not to say that it wasn't all interesting filler, because it was, but I wish it had been told as it happened rather than as a flashback or as info dump.
Then we got into the nuts and bolts of the new contest and I gotta say that it just wasn't as magical as the first time around, which was perhaps to be expected. I found my mind wandering a l ...more

I liked Ready Player One so much that I guess I should've expected a second book to have trouble living up to my expectations for it. I didn't dislike this book, but it simply didn't grab me the way the earlier one did. I think part of the problem was all the references to pop culture: some I never knew, and many I no longer remember. So all the references to particular songs or particular scenes in a particular movie left me cold. If there hadn't been so many of those, I might've enjoyed the st
