The fourth installment of Aaronovitch's spell slinging police procedurals carries on the excitement and momentum, building the setting and characters. Probably my favourite 'urban fantasy' series, along with Charlie Stross' Laundry books, definitely helped by the London setting, the strength of the characterisation and twisted humour..Great stuff.

I love these so much! A perfectly enjoyable, relaxing book where you don't have to think too much. The same characters we know and love, exciting and funny by turns. The pacing is maybe a little off-- for most of the book there's not much happening, but that was kind of the case with the others as well. They're fun to read even when not much is happening though, so I don't mind that much. Hopefully I don't have to wait as long for the library to get me #5!

Another enjoyable installment in this series. There's more world-building here and I felt like Peter is becoming more of a complete and defined character with a more clear voice. I'm looking forward to continuing this series.

well i struggled with the first book in this series - really enjoyed the next 2 and then struggled with this one. Peter grant magical detective is once more off in search of the faceless man. There are so many twists and turns it is exhausting.
