Lilian Boxfish Takes a Walk is basically the author's love letter to New York as her protagonist, Lillian Boxfish, walks through Manhattan, she basks in her beloved city and reminisces of her life here in her prime years.

It is basically a beautiful novel but just oh, so sad that it's really not what I needed right now plus it also contained that particular thing that I'd like to avoid in fiction, I was that tempted to drop it. So all in all, it's me and not the book. The book with its poignancy

What a wonderful little book. The narrator for the audiobook really captured this character and I think raised this book from what would have been a three- or four-star read to a five-star for me. It also doesn't hurt that I have fond memories of living in and walking around New York City, not in the mid-eighties when this book is set, but in the early 2000s. I got this book from Book browse for a honest review. I enjoyed it. It is a blend of my two favorite genres-historical fiction and memoir. I also enjoyed reading about New York City. I am a small town person. I have never been to New York City. I have always been fascinated by it but also scared of it. I thought Lillian was very brave to walk in New York city alone at night. I also thought she was brave when she ran into her 3 would be muggers. I think book clubs, older career women and people w ...more

I wavered on this one. On one hand, I loved the spunky character of Lillian, who was interestingly based off a real woman who made an impact in advertising for Macy's in the 30s.

The character was great, as were some of her encounters as she walks the streets of NYC on New Year's Eve. Yet, I was bored through a lot of the book, which is reminiscing about her life.

this book reminisces through the life of Lilian Boxfish as she takes a walk through New york on new year's eve. The narration is awful guaranteed to send you to sleep there is little intonation. This spoilt the whole thing which i found to be simply forgettable ...more

I liked the first half, as it was nostalgic about New York City pre-World War Two. The second half dealt more with Lillian Boxfish's losses and disappointments in her life post-World War Two, which made me feel sad. ...more
