I don't remember what first put this book on my radar, but it's been languishing on my TBR list for a while. I had more trouble getting into it than I do with most books, finding it hard to keep track of all the separate little story lines. The author seemed to just jump from one to another. Yes, they eventually all fit together in a rather surprising way, but for a long time it was hard to keep trusting that that would happen.

I had trouble putting this one down - I really, really wanted to know what would happen next. Interesting mix of what was happening in the book - solving a crime, mingled with the politics of Russia in that era.

A good paranoid mystery/thriller set in the Soviet Union.
