Unfortunately, the witches who cursed him are hot on his trail, and Sookie will have to pull out all the stops to keep him and those she cares about safe.

The Sookie Stackhouse series is not to be mistaken for serious literature in any shape or form. Nevertheless, the characters are engaging (aside from Bill the jerk) and the stories are fast-paced, action-packed and highly entertaining.

Dead to the World is the best book so far, and this is mainly due to the wonderful dynamics between Eric and Sookie. While Eric's charm and humor have been apparent from the start, and his deeper feelings for Sookie have been hinted at, these traits come to the fore in this installment as his amnesia allows Sookie to lower her guard and get to know the softer Eric beneath the smarmy façade.

In addition to Eric, Sookie's supernatural harem gains another member, Calvin Norris who joins Sam, Bill and Alcide in their affection for her. However, at this point, it remains unclear which of the "bachelors" will go home with the prize as each is problematic in their own way.

In terms of the story, there are two apparently connected threads - the witch coven's plot to usurp the Shreveport vamps and weres, and the disappearance of Sookie's incorrigible brother, Jason. Although rather predictable, both are well-developed with one or two compelling twists and turns that will have intriguing consequences going forward.

All in all, these books are light, fluffy and fun. However, readers expecting a written version of the TV show are going to be disappointed as any resemblance between the characters and the plot developments is superficial at best. Can't wait to see what is next for Sookie and her cohorts. ...more

This is an incredible series, a great book, and the audiobook is phenomenal. This is an incredible series, a great book, and the audiobook is phenomenal. This story is about (view spoiler)[witches. Sookie and Bill have broken up - YAY! Sookie is driving home from a busy New Year's Eve shift at Merlott's Bar. On her way home, she finds a naked Eric lost without his memories. Sookie convinces him that she's a friend and she takes him home. She cares for him, clothes him, and let's Pam know he's with her. Jason and Pam strike an agreement; Sookie will care for Eric in exchange for 30 grand. Sookie's not happy with the decisions being made for her and she's drawn to the innocent Eric. Eric is freaking adorable. He's gorgeous, innocent, needs Sookie to help him and yet he's protective. I love Eric this way. Things progress with Eric and Sookie and they fall in bed together and later, their hearts get involved. Hallow is a witch who cast a spell on Eric. She was angry after she made a pass at Eric and he shot her down. She is gathering the witches and trying to take over the supernaturals. Jason goes missing and the woods behind his home are searched, after blood and a panther paw are found out back. Panthers in Louisiana? The weres and vamps, along with a couple good witches band together with Sookie to attack the witches. Debbie Pelt and Alcide are back together and during the planning meeting, Debbie is called out back Bill for torturing him during his capture in Club Dead. She's also called out for trying to kill Sookie, when she shoved her into a car with a starving Bill. Alcide is furious and after seeing her true nature he says something formal to cut ties with her. She's devastated and during the attack on the witches, she goes after Sookie again, but is stopped by Eric. With the witches taken out, Sookie is upset to discover that Jason isn't there. She and Eric return home and are surprised by Debbie with a shot gun. Debbie shoots Sookie, but Eric intercedes and his shot in her place. Sookie then shoots Debbie and when Eric regains his strength, he disposes of the body. The next evening, Eric rises as his old self and has no memories of his time with Sookie. He leaves her $50K as payment and a tip. Sookie learns from Sam that Hot Point is a family of were-panthers, not wolves like she thought. They immediately head there and find Jason. Jason's been badly beaten and bitten multiple times. The creep who captured him will be put to death by their pack leader and Jason may or may not become a were-panther at the next full moon. As much as I'm enjoying this series of books, the constant repeat of what happened in previous books, (I'm assuming for the benefit of those who pick up one out of order), is getting to me a little. I do hope Alcide features in future books...he sounds like such a honey. If only he didn't grow sooo much hair with the full moon. Lol ...more
