I actually liked this book much better than the Sookie Stackhouse books that are so popular (and that I'm totally up to date on). I enjoyed the relationship between Harper and Tolliver, although I'm not a huge fan of Harper herself. Not that I don't like her, she's not terrible, but she's got this whole "drama about every little thing" thing going on and overall I'm just not that big a fan of that.

This book was really leaning towards a 4 or 5 star read, until I got to the end and the whole myste

Charlaine Harris has been added to my favourite author list. This woman’s imagination and ability to tell a story that just sucks you in from page to page so you can put it down is astounding.

This series also involves a female protagonist named Harper Connelly, she was hit by lightning when she was fifteen and now has the ability to find dead bodies. She does not communicate with the dead, she just senses the presence of the dead very strongly and is able to track down the bodies that are missi

This is the first in another series by Sookie Stackhouse creator, Charlaine Harris. This series focuses on Harper Connelly, a young woman who was struck by lightning and can now "hear" the dead. She and her brother Tolliver are called to a small town in Arkansas to locate the body and determine the cause of death of a young girl. While they are there, they learn of a series of mysterious deaths that have taken place in the town and realize that not everyone wants them snooping around.

I picked this one up on a "Bestseller bargain" shelf at a local used bookstore by one of my favorite sushi restaurants. It was an impulse buy--I read a few books in the Sookie Steakhouse series but it never really caught me (even watched one of the HBO episodes). But this idea of a main character who can sense dead bodies and then knows how they die seemed right up my alley.

After finishing it (in one day, no less), I have to say that it falls in line with the Sookie series, or Janet Evanovich's

After getting struck by lightening, Harper Connelly developed the ability to sense the locations of dead bodies and to experience what they felt when they died. With the help of her step-brother, she works as a consultant locating missing bodies for a living. After finding the body of a missing teenager and determining that the girl was murdered, Harper gets drawn into the case and starts to investigate who was responsible for the death of the girl and her boyfriend. I thought this book was OK, ...more

This is the first Charlaine Harris I read that wasn't Sookie. It was a good book, but the mystery was easily solved. I will probably read the next one. ...more
